M235i or 435i

Hey Folks. I understand you guys are probably tired of threads asking what to decide on whether 4 series or 2 series. Pardon this but, I just need help to decide.

I am coming from an 2015 M4 6-MT Sakhir Orange that only has Adaptive M suspension added. Everything else is bare. It is being sold today as I have some change in priorities and wanted to save more...

Contemplating between 435 or M235i. I like the agility of M235i but I also like the looks and roominess of 435.. Both cars will have same packages: tech, premium and sport(435)that will be under $35k

Any comments, helpful advice and shared experience in deciding to get M235i will be appreciated..

Btw, anyone know what's the difference between 2014 and 2016 M235i other than the year?

Thanks in advance..

Hey Jimmy!! yup did test drive both, but not side by side. Like mentioned, I like the agile M235i.. Just torn between the two, but leaning towards M235i. Just wanted to see if other enthusiasts can share their experience and how they liked the M235i.

Btw, what is the difference between 2014 M235i and 2016 M235i?

Drive them both if you can, back to back ideally. If you cannot since they are not current models, at least drive a 240 and 440 back to back. That should at least help get you 75% of the way towards a decision.

2014 vs 2016 the biggest change is "free" included maintenance will transfer to second owner on the 2014, they quit doing that starting in 2015. So assuming the car is still under original coverage for that and warranty, you could extend both out through 100K if you want (for $ obvs).

Most of the big changes in the 2 are for 2017 when it became the M240i with the switch from N55 to B58 motor and other subtle things like new iDrive. Not much between years of M235i.

For a coupe i always like to keep them smaller as long as the power's still there. She's roomy enough for you old man!

I drove both back to back just a week ago. I now have an M235 on the way. They are two completely different cars to me. If I was looking to go 1000 miles a day the 435 would have been perfect. However, I was looking for a fun, powerful, light weight, practical sports coupe. The 235 won by a wide margin.

That's a fair point. If I had a daily HW commute I'd go 4-series probably GC. The 2 is great don't get me wrong but when I head out to my Harrisburg office (90 turnpike miles) it's stays at home.

As the M235i is more fun to drive and we're biased on the 2er forum, go for the M235i and don't look back

lol.. Yup asking on 2addicts forum may be biassed.
But then again, I have decided that M235i is more fun to drive.. Coming from a bigger sized car.

Thank you for everyone's constructive feedback.

Got a used 2016 M235i White DCT w/ premium and driver assistance:

I have a m235i and I got a 4 series as a courtesy loaner(sorry I don't remember specifically which one but it only had one exhaust). Aesthetically, i think the two cars are pretty similarly good looking in the front but the 4 series looks nicer in the rear. I prefer a smaller coupe cuz nobody I know is going to sit in the back of coupe big or small, and I feel like the 4 series is like a boat in size. Handling-wise the 2 handles and feels better. When I was buying the car it was a matter of debate for me whether I wanted the better handling and performance or did I want the car that looked like it had the better handling and performance. In the end, I wanted to feel the better handling and performance while driving and not just something that looked like it did. My opinions may be in the minority but thats how i felt.

I think the 4 really shines in GC format when your options are that or a 3 series. Better in every way except rear entry / egress if memory serves.

If you really want to maximize the savings moving from an m4, I'd argue the m235i is the better bang for the buck car between the two.

Nice car. You made the right choice. I had a 2014 335i, and 2014 435i. I recently purchased a M240i and can say without a doubt that it's a better driving experience than those two cars were, which is saying a lot because they were f'kn awesome. My only gripe with the M240i is the narrow stock tires in the rear, which I hope to resolve soon with a staggered setup.

I agree.. I did miss the M4's power, but this seem to be more agile, so it's actually fun..
I'm new in the 2addicts forum and have been looking around what wheels can I get with this new toy. My only regret is the limited selection of wheels I can slap on these. I am a fan of Vorsteiner, but don't think they would work..

m235i wins in every category for me besides luxury. the 4 has a little nicer options and standard equipment, but the 2 does literally everything better. biggest difference for me is the 2 series is a more comfortable ride while also handling better cause the damping is so much better. 4 is stiff on bumps, soft in turns.

Agreed.. Surprisingly, I actually don't miss the M4 as bad as I thought I would..
Definitely M235 has less aggressive look and slower than the M4, but I can live with that knowing the half price difference..

the non comp pack m3/4 was a little underwhelming. the 2 series has been the most fun you can get out of a BMW since it came out. I still believe the 2 series is more "fun" than even the comp pack m3/4. comp pack made a huge difference and is really good but the car is still big and you can't use all that power.
