Tips & Tricks

Are there any tips & tricks thread for the 2-series / BMW in general? I tried to search but doesn't seem to exist.

One useful feature i found was tapping the seat slider button to have it automatically slide back and forth instead of holding down the button (my CA didn't even know this).

there's a sort of launch control. clutch in, press the gas, revs will stop around 3-3.5k. let out the clutch and away you go. still unsure as to if this is launch control or a rev limiter...

or, if you have an auto I don't know how that works haha

You can also go in settings so comfort access unlocks all doors, not just drivers.

The belly pan panels are kind of ingenious in that they don't flop down when you loosen the fasteners, but need to be shifted so you can then have both hands free to drop it. I'm coming from a Benz that flopped open so the BMW way is better.

If you have the technology package with gps, you can assign one of the preset buttons for navigation to set a route to home

It's nice to simply press one button wherever I am when I'm out and about, and know the way home a few seconds later.

Was not aware of a setting, but mine has always unlocked both doors when I grabbed the door handle. Does not matter which side I am on, if I grab a door handle both doors unlock.

I did it last year when I got my car. If I remember correctly - after I put in my home address in navigation, I held the "cursor" over route, instead of pressing route, I pressed and held one of the preset buttons for a few seconds to save it as a preset.

It works the same for saving any "shortcut"

Highlight what you want a shortcut to and press & hold your designated button. For your home address just go to your "recent destinations" and highlight your home address. Press & hold number.

I have 1-3 phone numbers, 3 as control display brightness, 4 as TPMS, and 8 as my home address

If you lightly rest your finger on the pre-set buttons (not hard enough to press it) you will see a description of what that button is programmed for on the display.

If you have a manual transmission your car has hill assist. When on a hill after you take your foot off of the brakes the car will hold the brakes for a second giving you a chance to get going without rolling backwards.

The preset buttons are great. I use them for quick shortcuts to settings like the lights and trip computer info. I also use them for a couple radio presets as well.

I haven't heard of the launch control with the manual trans. I will have to give that one a go once the weather isn't wet. Is there a certain configuration your settings all have to be in before you can use this?

If you want the sport sound for the exhaust (flap open) you can start the car, let it warm up, put it in Sport, rev up above 3K while shutting off the engine. Go under the driver's side and unplug the flap control connector, start the car back up and make sure that there is air coming out of both pipes. Shut the car off and use electrical tape to tape up the connector ends and tuck the wire up there behind itself so it's dangling around. Bingo! Sport exhaust all the time.

Yah I don't think people know enough about those buttons and what they can do to make it easier in the car.

FWIW, my buddy who works in the professional and personal security world advised us to not put the actual home address in car. Just a zip code or town instead.

I don't know about anyone else, but I keep my registration and insurance in my car too. I think anyone who'd want my address would try to find that information before they see what I have in my nav's "Last Destinations" menu or what I have one of my shortcut buttons set to.

A lot of people say this but I think there are easier ways to get someone's address if they wanted it that bad.

I always lock my glove box and keep the key with me when I valet my car. Give them the fob but remove the actual key.
