I would never use that chevron fuel cleaner stuff. Most of the time it just gets everything loose and stuck in your injectors doing more harm than good.

Ripping people off? Please elaborate. I haven't heard about this before. I know it's not the cheapest brand out there, but for me it's by far the closest and most convenient top tier brand near my house. Costco isn't an option anywhere near me. |

In the Chicago area and in Florida, the difference between premium and regular is 85 cents at all major brands. Costco is not only cheaper but the spread is less. Today the difference was 45 cents. Almost $6 for 12 gallons. There is also principle involved.

I looked up Costco and they are cheaper according to reported prices, by about 25-30c, but gas station is too far away Last edited by Kolyan2k; 04-22-2017 at 02:10 AM.. |

I remember when Reg gas was $1, Mid was $1.05, and Prem was $1.10. Now that Reg gas is $2.40.. What is the spread like 30+ cents between each grade? The one station by my office is like 45 cents between each grade. That's almost a buck difference between Reg and Prem.
It might be cheaper to use some octane booster.

Very first tank of gas today and I used 91 at chevron. Just as I was fuelling, I saw the sign "may contain 10% ethanol".
I understand it is okay for warmer weather but I will check out Shell which is further away or use chevron 93. |

We are recommended to only use 98 Octane here in Australia for the M235i. We have had some fuel issues recently and BMW suggested we move down to 95 Octane.
I seriously had no idea that it is so low in the US and Canada. |

"race rule concentrate" which could be why you get much better performance and higher octane number with them. Check it out, http://torcoracefuel.net/pro-accelerator.html |

I'm in NY so I use 93. Why would anyone use less than 91?

Because it's cheaper and most don't race/track their cars so they won't see or feel any benefit in using higher octane gas.
If one uses lower octane gas.. even 87, the odds are you'll never be able to tell, but can save more than a few pennies. The spread I'm seeing between Reg and Prem gas around me is 65 cents to a buck. From Mid to Prem, I'm seeing like 30 to 50 cents. About the only place that's reasonable around me is Costco.. where the spread from Reg to Prem is like 30 cents.
