I really don't like the top. It feels vinyl, not soft like my old 128 vert.

I, personally, don't see the appeal in the convertible top. I'm sure it's a fantastic car and an awesome experience, but I wish the top was nicer looking (to me).
*** IN CASE IT'S NOT ALREADY CLEAR, THIS IS JUST MY OPINION *** I think I prefer a hard top like the 4 convertible. Plus, someone can slice open the top with a knife, right ?

Not mine Slayer, my rep called me when the first one came in so I could see it. Not impressed. If I go over and it is out with the top down I will try and get you a pic.

Nothing matchs in colour as someone must have bad taste when they ordered this convertible. The white seats and grey top is odd looking and blue is not me favourite colour.

Convertibles are what they are, with the exception of the 6ER and perhaps MB E Series, most are not attractive. With that being said, for those wanting a car reasonably priced offering exceptional handling, performance with the addition of a drop top the 2ER is the only choice. As for the material used for the optional Black/Silver top, not a fan.

This is my guess - the hardtop has a radio antenna in the rear window so they displace that to the fender antenna and the shark fin probably needs to be central located?
Anyway, the blue/oyster with black top looks pretty fine to me, soft tops are often quieter then retractable hardtop so that may be why Audi, Bentley, Mercedes E, Mustang etcetera make refined product with cloth top. Last edited by overcoil; 02-24-2015 at 09:06 AM.. |

Ignore the hardtop owners who say they hate the vert. They are just jealous, and will be even more so once spring arrives...hopefully by June here in New Jersey.

Is the hard top not retractable ? Is that why they'd be jealous ?

I understood perfectly well what he said and you did too. Hardtop, yes refers to coupe drivers and yes you either like convertibles or you don't. I've owned 5 BMW convertibles and loved all of them and looks are subjective. Don't rag on convertible lovers just because you don't like convertibles, they are never going to look like a coupe but who gives a shit since that's not the point. I've had soft tops and hardtop 335 and there are pluses and minuses to each. Hardtop is not as loud almost like a coupe but it adds a lot of weight vs a soft top. Owned a Z3, Z4, 330, M3 and 335 convertible which my son now drives. I bought a coupe M235 but if the convertible had been available I probably would have gone with a convertible. The only fail is the antenna but other than that it will sell like hot cakes down here in the south because the 4 series convertible is expensive as hell.

No need to be inflammatory. Grow up or go to another forum where they encourage flame wars.

Dude, did you even read my words ? Let me restate them here: "I, personally, think the convertible top looks butt ugly. Don't see the appeal." The word "personally" implies that this is just my opinion, doesn't it ? I never stated this as though it were a fact. I also never said that the convertible does not have pluses. Of course they have pluses ... they have things coupes don't have. I never denied that. I was only offering my opinion on one aspect of the convertible - the looks. That's all. So, why, then, are you all pissed off at me ?

The other thing is - this is a BMW product, not something YOU HAND MADE ! Why are you taking this personally ? I am criticizing something made by BMW, as this is a BMW forum. I never disrespected fellow forum members.

Also, why did you people decide to attack me when 10 other people have expressed their dislike of the convertible ?!!!!
Why did you pick me ? What did I do that no one else did ?

I'm guessing it might have been your choice of words--"butt ugly" is a little harsh (and the convertible doesn't really look THAT different from the coupe), but of course you're entitled to your opinion and I love my convertible choice nonetheless.
It's all a matter of taste. Thankfully everyone's taste is different because it would look pretty boring out there if we were all driving the same car. In honesty I'm a bit nervous about the brown roof on my build--in the picture it looks great (to me) but the "silver threads" have me nervous since I took the risk of ordering it sight-unseen. I'm hoping I don't have a disco convertible! (...and trusting that BMW wouldn't do that to me.) In the end, whether coupe or convertible, I think all the 2 series are gorgeous--love the proportions and the lines. |
