I'm Sofa King happy with my M235i

Coming up on 3 years of ownership this May and my M235i still makes me smile every time I drive it. I make no apologies for my continued enthusiasm with this car. I merely mention this in contrast to the seemingly Never-satisfied-I-should've-bought-a-**-dual-turbo-super-charged-I-can't-go-fast-enough-(to jail)-crowd. And I mean it. Best performing DD I've ever owned. And its stock.

I am not surprised, It is a great vehicle and you are the only one who should care if it suits your needs. I own a 228ix and I have heard similar comments. It suits my needs, I love to drive it and that is all that matters.

Congrats and ditto! The only thing I did to the car was tint the windows, which was great until NY State made tinting illegal. I have another 9 months before it goes back to straight stock.
And where are these people going in such a hurry?

I've only owned mine a year and she's been in storage for the last five months. Bringing her back next weekend and I can't wait! Got a downpipe and new intercooler just itching for install.

Tint has been illegal in NYS since 1991, enforced at the discretion of law enforcement. They just decided to make it part of the annual safety inspection starting in 2017. I think it's BS that SUVs can have aftermarket tint on the rear side windows, but sedans/coupes cannot. We can only tint the rear window.

Ditto, I think keeping it away for the winter makes it that much more enjoyable in the warmer seasons. As the snow melts, car gets FBO treatment along with M4 lca's and Dinan springs/bumps

Truth.
So why do I keep looking at ///M cars and V8s to get more emotion? I must have a screw loose because my 2er is incredible.

The only mod I am thinking about for my 228ix is a sportier muffler. Probably Dinan or Supersprint. I don't want loud raspy sound just a little more purr and both mufflers offer this.

I am only 3 months into driving my M235i vert. Each time I drive it I am more and more impressed. I really liked my MINI Cooper S Hardtop which I replaced with the bimmer. At one time I said the MINI was the perfect transportation solution for getting one (or two) person(s) from one place to another. It was compact and easy to park, relatively comfortable, fun to drive with ample power and go kart-like handling, efficient with gas, safe and, at least for me, reliable. Well, after my first long drive in the M235i this past weekend (3.5 hours each way), I'd say it has the MINI beat on everything except "compact" and "efficient". I am most impressed with the comfort, power and handling. Besides being fun in the twisty's, it really makes a great GT car, eating up interstate pavement with ease and comfort. I am so happy I made the switch. I really look forward to spending more time behind the wheel, especially once the weather gets a bit warmer when I can run with summer wheels and tires and the top down.

I guess there's going to be lots of tinted window owners with one of these 3 conditions in NYS. LOL

Porphyria
Xeroderma Pigmentosa
Severe Drug Photo-Sensitivity

I used to carry a prescription from my LASIK doctor in the glove box in my Acura. It stated I had sensitivity to light after LASIK surgery. I had him write it after a tint ticket I got in 2010, but I never ended up getting the chance to see if it worked. The windows were only 35%, so cops never really seemed to care. I wish they would at least allow the rear windows to be tinted. I think the 2 Series looks fine with just the rear and rear/sides tinted. SUV's are exempt because so many of them come from the factory with tint on the rear passenger/quarter glass windows. GM started that trend back in '95 with the Blazer.

I had the front side windows tinted to match the shading on the rear sides. It looks more uniform that way, and consequently much better, IMHO. I deliberately had the car inspected early, so as to avoid the January date. Let's see what happens next January. I am sure everyone is eager to know.

Whoooaaa.... I wonder if that applies to tourist vehicles. My wife and I are planning a trip through several States in late April - early May and we're starting by going thru NYS. I've got 50% all around except for front windshield. I don't want to be hassled by NY State po-po...
Else I may have to start through Michigan...
While he's at chopping regulations, maybe Trump can add this to the pile..

Out of state registered vehicles fall into a "grey" area. Chances are low that you'd get hassled. I used to have 20% on my Audi when I lived in T.O and frequented the NY state area and beyond, never with a hassle. Here in B.C. front tints are completely illegal however you cant get away with 35-50% up front and almost a non issue in terms of traffic stops, etc. I have 50% up front and 35% on the rears, looks great. Will do 50% on the entire care next time around (windshield included).

I had successful Lasik 10 years ago. Seems like sunglasses would be a reasonable alternative...

You won't have a problem with an out-of-state registration. For example, cars registered in Pennsylvania aren't required to have a front license plate but cars in NY are, and you can't get a ticket for driving a PA car in NY with no front plate.

Tint is illegal in many states. New York State Police aren't any more apt to hassle you than any other state police agency.

Sunglasses work fine. It was a bullshit excuse. I like tint for privacy and to protect the interior from UV wear.

I share your sentiments exactly. I just hit the three year mark and 48,200 miles. I love driving this car EVERY day. I am even somewhat torn that I am trading it in on a 17' M2 which is due here on March 29th.
