New-to-Me Mineral Gray 228xi Sport Line
After being a long time lurker on the forum I finally pulled the trigger on a 2015 CPO. It's a 228xi Sport Line with Lighting Pkg, Tech Pkg, Premium Pkg, and Mineral Gray. It also came with the all weather floor mats which look great.
Gave the car a nice wash and wax today. I don't think the prior leaser ever did a wax as there was no beading of water on the car before hand. The car is a Sport Line and I really like the Black Gloss bits on the air intakes, 8 slat grill, mirror caps, and the rear bumper gloss black trim. The black exhaust tips also are nice. With the car photos I looked at online and walking the dealer lots, I didn't pick up these nice visual elements until i bought the car. BTW, I love how the car drives. My 6'3" body fits in it great with 1" of extra head room. Only post purchase issues I came across was: 1) the horn didn't work after I brought it home. Got that fixed at the dealer (they said moisture in the connections for hi and low freq. horns is common). 2) 18" Sport Wheel Hub Corrosion - I didn't notice this when I bought the car. But when you wash a car by hand you see everything. When I look closer at the wheel hub, there is a thin layer of plastic flaking off where the corrosion is. Seems water and gunk is getting trapped behind the thin plastic surface and the alloy wheel. I have this issue on all 4 of my wheels. Anyone have this issue and if so is there any fix. Would the dealer warranty the wheels for me? Pictures attached... |

Congrats on the car. Looks fantastic as you might imagine I a little biased toward MG.
As for the clear coat peeling on your wheels they should definitely be covered under warranty. The things you mentioned about corrosion on the hubs, wheels and moisture preventing the horn from working would alarm me a little TBH.

You should cut the tabs off your floor mats. You'll see a picture of scissors on them. They're there just for hang and display in store. Will look much better without.

Congratulations, you're going to love it. Looks almost identical to my '16 - mine is not the sportline, but otherwise very similar (I thought all the sportlines had blackout trim around the windows, so I'd have missed that). I'm loving mine - Conti winter tires on 17" sparco rims and it handles snow like an Arctic Cat, even this latest blizzard-over-ice. But now I'm itching for putting the summertime tires back on and doing some real driving.

You use the horn that much that you blew it out already? Impressive; that took me 15 years in my last car!

Took the car to the dealer. They replaced the low and high frequency horns. The SA said that moisture in the horn connections is a common problem. I took photos of the wheels and sent them to the SA who said BMW NA is now reviewing. As I have only have had the car 3 weeks both the horn and the wheels were prior CPO issues that interestingly were not caught during the CPO process. I also noticed some white seat foam particals under the drivers seat. The SA said there is a TSB on this to prevent foam wear in the seat.
Long and short of it, the car came off lease and now somebody who cares about the car is getting everything addressed. Next week I am getting all the fluids done per the "Lifetime Maintenance" Schedule: Transfer Case & Differential Oil, Coolant, Spark Plugs, Power Steering Fluid, Engine Oil, and Air Filter. It's not cheap but having it done at local BMW indy shop. |
