Engine light comes on during power on

Press the start button once (foot off brake) and the battery turns on. Engine is off. After a second or two, these icons are left.

Is the engine light supposed to be on? It disappears once I start the car, doesn't appear at all when driving. I figure it's on to tell me that the engine is currently off?

Referred to the manual but couldn't find an answer. I know this is probably a dumb question, but would rather be safe than sorry.

It's showing you that the light/warning is functioning. It's normal.

Its normal. A car that doesn't turn on the CEL in accessory mode, won't pass smog. (in California anyways)

Better to ask than stress for no reason. Just FYI if your check engine light comes on while driving that's not a cause for concern if the car is operating properly. Still get it to dealer but don't need to pull over and out it on a flatbed. They use that for everything now even just to alert for a software update needed.
