Also please realize that when you purchase the first of a model from a dealership, you will more than likely be paying full MSRP. I participated in the F8x group delivery, and I'm looking forward to participating in the launch of the M2 also. It was a wonderful experience! Last edited by Reid; 10-20-2014 at 07:12 AM.. |

M2 will be offered with manual transmission only, in order to sufficiently distance itself from the M3 and M4:

This is just fantastic news, I hope it is true. Really shows that BMW is committed to "the driver" and a "drivers car" DCT is nice, but I ohh so regret every day not going with manual in my 228i. An amazingly fun car dont get me wrong but its kind of boring kind of "kills" the car
This very well be the last ///M to be developed with a manual transmission, and it would be nice if it was exclusive too! Emailed the dealer to get on the list for the Eurodelivery. Picked up my 228i while the m3/m4 euro group was over there at the dealer that sold most of them.

Seriously. One random quote and people take it is actual news. I know we're all excited for this car, but damn, relax.

Personally, I couldn't care less as long as they actually offer a 6MT. Pickings are getting slim these days for those of us who still prefer it. The fact that they even offer one is one of the main reasons I am a BMW customer.
In fairness to enthusiasts of all types, the car needs to have both 6MT and DCT (the regular automatic, good as it is, simply is not sufficient for an M car). |

This might seem like a silly question, but when you say MSRP, did you mean regular MSRP or ED MSRP?

This is a choice between two options, but it's not simply 6MT vs DCT:
Given all this, BMW faces a tradeoff with the M2:
Thus I suspect we have the option of a manual only M2 that's closer to the M4 in terms of power to weight, but achieves separation in part by the transmission, or we can get a car with a DCT option that needs to achieve separation by other means. Most likely including reducing its power. You can see here how BMW's current and historical M car lineups stack up, and figure out where you'd like to be in terms of price/ performance. Just keep in mind that you probably won't get "better than the M4":

As for all this, not sure if it's fun, but it is interesting. I've had a request to turn it into an article... if I ever get my head around it. We'll see.

Pretty sure you are going to lose that bet - thank heavens. BMW already has it at both ends of its range - the M3/4 and the Mini - and it's the coming thing (C7, Porsche, etc.)
As long as BMW sets it up so it can be turned off by the heel and toe-ers (a dying breed to be sure) , BMW can make everyone happy... |

Personally, I didn't think I was going to like it when I test drove an M4 with 6MT, but was pleasantly surprised. It took time to get used to it though |

I love the heel-toe man, can't lose it. Car will live in Sport + its whole damn life then. I do it ALL the time, even when driving my crappy daily. I feel it saves the drivetrain some strain in the long run..
