Poll for NJ members

If you live in New Jersey and are refueling, do you keep the engine on? Or shut it down?

Why would you do that? I have always understood that the fuel system is pressurized and opening the cap while running could throw a check engine light. Also, wouldn’t the risk of a spark while fueling be a bad idea?

It never once occurred to me to fuel up with the engine running. I have done so once and only once because I dropped someone off, went to get gas in their car, then realized the key fob was with them so turn off = stranded. Beyond that I don't know why you would.

Yeah, OP? This should have been posted in this regional subforum. We'll have the mods move it.

Im guilty of this. I turn it off when I have to pump myself but for some reason I never think about when I get to stay in the car. I guess I should make it a habit of turning off.

So originally I was going to ask if anyone else notices an idle dip during refueling. It happens once almost every time I refuel w the engine on.

Never had an issue with check engine light. If you are worried about sparks, what about a car is started by yourself or others? Especially in Summer where the potential for an increased amount vaporized fuel is an issue.
