Who to tell if i dont want front bumper drilled??

So my biggest fear is that they might drill the front bumper without my consent to place the frame (NJ requires front plate) . I have no plans on putting the front plate and i want to make sure no one drills it. If its done at the dealership it shouldnt be a problem as i work there. However i have heard that sometimes this happens at the port. It doesnt make much sense to me that they would do it at the port but can anyone confirm?

Should be at the dealer not port. I bought my car from Hassel BMW in Long Island and just told my salesman I don't want the front drilled.

Tell the salesmen, he will write it down on the delivery forms to not drill the plate when they prep the car.

If the car is already in stock, then it may already have the plate mounts installed.

If you work at the store, it shouldn't be a problem. However, if its law in your state to have one, the technician doing your PDI may put it on by default!

If I were you, track down the shop foreman or a tower controller (the one who dishes out the jobs to the techs!) and see if you can find out who will get your PDI job card. If you work there, perhaps befriend a tech (if you haven't already) who you can request do all this for you!

You will probably still need to enlighten both the tower controller and the tech themselves individually, as to your wishes - particularly if it turns out to be someone you don't know...

Oh and for good measure, get the keys once it arrives on the transporter and stick a 'post it' note on the steering wheel, covering the roundel Just be careful not to get in the way of the 'stocking in' process if you do so

Good luck

I bought my car from jersey and they didn't install any front plate bracket.

I can also confirm that drilling and mounting the front plate bracket is something that happens at the dealership.

To make sure mine was NOT done, I talked to my CA who wrote it into my dealer order sheet, and then walked down to the Service manager to write it in BIG black letters on the outside of my folder to not mount the front plate. Apparently it is a fairly common request from the M3/M4 owners so they already have a process.

They are pretty well aware that I won't take delivery of the car if the bumper is drilled so I'm not worried about it

My CA wrote on a piece of paper in big letters "NO FRONT PLATE" and put it against the front windshield.

I don't know about in your state but in Massachusetts they must put on the front plate by law or it won't pass inspection and you can not pick up the car. I simply bought one of those plate holders that screws into the front tow hole and gave it to the dealer and he mounted the plate that way. When I wanted to remove it (I never did) I could just unscrew the plate holder and there would be no holes.

Good plan where its required by law.

NC only has a rear plate but some dealers try to mount the bracket for their advertising plate, so you still need to get it written into the initial paperwork.

i would call the salesguy and remind him about that. I caught them just in time a dude was walking by when i was picking up the car with a drill in his hand and i chased him down. Sure enough he was headed to my car. Tell them no holes or you will not take the car and i promise they will not drill anything.

I bought my car in NJ but its going to be registered in FL meaning no front plate , I just told my salesman when I ordered, and reminded him pretty much every time he called lol The dealer drills the holes not the port , if you mention it they won't do it, trust me I was sweating till the delivery date since I was worried the message wouldn't be relayed to the guy prepping the car

The sales manager asked me if I wanted the front plate bracket installed, and he mentioned that it would require them drilling holes. I politely declined. He nodded and walked away. I was going through the paper work with my salesman at the moment. I thought that was very thoughtful service. I had no idea holes had to be drilled, so I'm grateful that I was given a choice.

i have been pulled over a few times in my sti and not once did the cop ever say anything about my plate not being there. they do not seem to ask about it anymore so just go naked in the front. if a officer says something tell them you bought the car without the plate on the front and they usually just let it slide. most nice cars go no plate these days so its pretty common and cops do not care as much in texas.

Your mileage will vary on this, as per the millions of threads on the subject.

I have been pulled over (NY) specifically for the front plate and no other infractions. When cops are looking for easy money to make it's a quick ticket, or excuse to pull you over to see if there's any other reason to give you a ticket.

But I still had the car drilled without the front plate and left it that way for 2+ years. Just have to pay to play.

I've only been pulled over the one time in a meh neighborhood in a car not quite as nice as a BMW, plus I had holes in the front. That car actually had some asswipe steal the front plate ('cause he said I stole his girlfriend), and so it had the original holes.

I went three years without a front plate on my mineral white 335is and never a front plate issue from police or CHP. Now with the 2er, it may be harder to pull, as the car is red and has the euro plate on the front for now. I just feel like it screams out for attention from the cops, unlike the last car where in passing it might go unnoticed (as the car and California plates are white).

You may not have handled the situation properly:

I was sitting in the office of the finance guy when I mentioned my desire to not mount the plate. Without saying a word he jumped out of his chair and was full-on running to the service area. He was afraid they would be drilling it right then. As it turns out, we won't pick up the car until Friday but never had a chance to tell him! It was good entertainment!
