Bore Stroke Ratio
Thinking that Joe's gut feeling about the M240i B58 engine can be explained by the B58 being an undersquare / longer stroke engine than the N55 which is slightly oversquare / larger bore. Therefore, the peak torque of the B58 is made at a lower engine speed. Throw in improved cooling and the differences are what Joe describes. Also explains the need for the forged crank & rods.
. . However, I wonder how the B58 will compare in maintenance cost and long term ownership: (2) WATERPUMPS VS (1) FOR EXAMPLE. . |

And doesn't the N55 in the m235 have a forged bottom end? I remember reading an article/press release that supported this. The same one where they confirmed that the m235 was faster than the 1M around the track.. I'll try to find it. Found it: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showt...9#post15275019
