compensation for dealer order placement error?
I submitted a build to my CA while negotiating price. After taking my deposit but before they had an allocation, I changed my mind on the interior trim to 'EB matte highlight', submitted a new build, and the CA acknowledged receipt.
My car is now in production but the CA never made the adjustment! He's saying he can change it to any option except the one requested. I probably could learn to live with one of the glossy trims -- the wood trim, IMO, is fugly. If the CA can't fix this, what would be reasonable for me to demand as compensation?

Well, if the car is not what is on the acknowledged order sheet, you are not under obligation to accept it on delivery. When it comes, decline to accept it and tell them you want them to order one based on the order sheet. I suspect that when you decline they will offer you some compensation to take the one that arrived. If there is no offer, or a unacceptable offer, walk away. Your willingness to walk away is your only leverage at this point. Oh, and make sure you walk away with your deposit in hand.

First world problems, at their best!
I'd find someone on here who'd be willing to trade? If not, they're not too expensive, and I'm sure the dealership could work something out for you. Was it just the trim that's the issue? If so, it's pretty minor IMO. If you wanted to go from no "tech" to the "full tech" package and came up without it, I'd be a bit more concerned.

I am sure this sucks, but as they say s*%T happens. You need to be reasonable. It all really depends on how much they want your business and how willing you are to live with the change(s) or to wait for exactly what you ordered. If your request is too outrageous, they may just give you your deposit back and let you move on to another dealer. In my experience, things go much better if you go in with a good attitude, rather than being pissed off and looking for a fight.

Someone in the UK on another forum had a similar, but not the same, problem - factory fitted the wrong trim option.
Their BMW dealer sorted it out at the Dealer's expense - parts for the whole kit are not that expensive and a BMW tech can change them in about 10 minutes. |

This is a VERY easy fix. Have them order the trim you want and install it before you take delivery. It's literally a 15 minute job I did it myself in my 235
since I wanted the gloss black that's not available in US (is for 228).

This. And be thankful they screwed up on this and not, say, the ZHP option on a 228i, or the sunroof delete, or transmission choice, ya know?

Yeah as others have echoed, I wouldn't be overly concerned. Ask the dealer to switch it out on delivery. I had brushed aluminum on mine but switched it out with the M2 trim. Took about 20 minutes and I'm terrible at this sort of thing. This should be an easy fix.
Also, I applaud you for not kicking puppies. |

Thanks for all the suggestions. I had no idea trims can be ordered separately. Easy fix!

My girlfriend had this happen to her when she ordered a 328 M sport a few years back. The car came with the wrong trim, she said fix the trim and only then will I take possession of the car. They kept saying take possession first and we will then change the trim.
It was really an awful combo. She had ordered the red interior with the aluminum trim. They gave her the wood trim. It looked like crap. She said no, left the car there. She now has a 135, which I think she is happier with anyways. In any case, have them fix it if its just the trim, and their mistake. I know it may seem miniscule, but if I am paying 45-50k for a car, and the dealer messes up the order, its not my problem. Order the proper one, or fix it to the specs I wanted. But you waited how many months, and are spending how much money? Why should you eat the cost of their mistake.
