Sometimes there is nothing better than a good road trip to clear one's head.

Not a lot, except explore Lookout Mountain a bit and drive through downtown some. Incidentally, Chattanooga was the largest city I went through during the trip -- part of the the point of which was to avoid big cities, LOL!

Nope; sorry. I thought about renting a GoPro to record a blast through the Tail (you can do that there, btw), but I was on a schedule, so I passed on it.

By the way: The Tail was not my favorite road on the trip. That would have been Cherohala; much smoother and appropriate for a sporty car. Second would be the Back of the Dragon -- it's basically a multi-phase carve over four mountains and three valleys. Very diverse, and quite challenging in places in the same way the Tail is -- just not as extreme.

One way, east to west, then shipping the car back home.

Same reason as you, wanted to hit the states I've never been to.

Great job.
I see a lot of Interstates on this route ... tsk tsk! :: smirk :: Looks awesome nevertheless!

In 2008, I did 5,500 miles from Dallas to the Kokanees in British Columbia and back in a Mini Cooper: up through Denver/Yellowstone/Glacier NP on the way, and western Washington/Oregon/southern Idaho/eastern Nevada to Zion/Grand Canyon, then Flagstaff/Petrified NP/Gila/Albuquerque/Hobbs on the way back. That wasn't all at once (stayed in BC for 2 1/2 weeks in between), but it was sufficiently epic.

I live in north Georgia, so I hope to try several of the roads you took!

Great pics, and a wonderful inspiration to start planning my summer trips. Probably won't get far out of state, but we have lots of mountain routes in Upstate if you don't mind not getting anywhere.

Yes you do! I've always wanted to do a U.S./Canada tour that wiggles across borders between Like Ontario and the mouth of the St. Lawrence. Some great country up there ... not to mention central and northwestern Pennsylvania. I've driven through the Alleghenys a bit. Gorgeous.

I've done Philadelphia to Buffalo quite a few times in the winter. Not fun. Macan S in the summer, left 4AM made it in 5 hours. Big fun.

Yes, between the Catskills and the Adirondacks, plenty of nice mountain road. When you get lucky they have recently been redone, the rest is pretty rough (partly why I won't really consider something as stiff as an M2 - in these settings I'd be bouncing off the road).
