220d Fuel consumption
Hi.
I just got a 220d coupé M 8 speed steptronic (the car is from fev 2016), and the fuel comsumption is around 8 litres per 100Km (I'm driving pretty normal, not steping hard on the pedal...). Is this normal? The BMW talks about 4,4 litres per 100km...I was hoping to see something between 6-7l. Thank you |

Sounds high to me.
I can't speak from direct experience of the newer 2 series diesels (B47), but I had an older 120D (N47) which barely go above ~7.5 no matter how hard I drove it. 5-6 per 100km was easily achievable with a bit of restraint. I get better than 8 in this M240i with "normal" driving - if the wife is with me. |

What can be wrong with my car, any idea? In 2k km it's going to service, I'll ask them to check whats happening with the fuel consumption, but to be honest I don't think they will give me any good answer |

You're driving fairly quick. Averaging 138kph over 1½ hours is a pretty decent pace, 6.9l/100km might be about right. Not really sure though, I think I was getting a little better, but maybe not averaging that kind of speed. Was it up and down mountains or at any kind of altitude?

No no, regular highway, not too much of up and downs... I drove for 2 hours with the cruise control on for almost the whole time, that's why the average is at 138.
The thing is, if I start getting some fun with the car, not only on highways, but also from 0-100Km/h, it will consume what, 9 or 10l per 100? I see people claiming their 20d consumes arround 5/6 liters without any special caution on the foot pedal, and since I got this car last week, I'm kind of worried that something may be wrong with it :/ Thank you for your help |

I have a 228 xdrive. On a recent highway trip, and trying ECOPRO for the first time, I saw a best of 36.3mpg (c.6.5) at about 75mph. At higher speeds of 75-85, mileage dropped back to about 32 (7.3-.4). Regular driving I am lucky to get more than 28-30 (7.8-8.4).
Your expectations may be a bit high, but also have them check your alignment and tire pressures (fixing my alignment added about 1/5-2mpg across the board). I believe it also gets better as the mechanicals break in. |

No experience with 220d, but I have had an e91 320d for 5 years. The highest consumption I have seen on it is 6.8l/100km. I average around 5.5, but can get it down below 5 when I go for long rides and mainly using cruise ctrl.
There must be something off when you average around 8 with a newer and more efficient engine in a lighter car. |

I've got a slightly smaller engine, 218d here.
My fuel consumption is at 5,8 litres currently, 32k km on the clock. Usually driving in Comfort or Sport mode.

I'm going to echo people talking about your cruising speeds. 138km/h you are going to see less fuel economy than the rating which is normally taken at about 90-100km/h.
Gearing and wind resistance are big factors. The Honda Fit we have will do 5.3L/100km at 105km/h but jump to 6.5L/100km or more if you cruise at 120km/h on the same road. |

My 220i convertible is 8Lt so no way your diesel should be anywhere near 8Lt per 100k
