Onboard Vehicle Tool Kit

What should the correct contents of the tool kit bag be in our M235?

Ours has the tow hook, a phillips screwdriver and a hex key.

There's a 4th pouch in the bag that's empty. Are we missing something?

Also, are the hex key and screwdriver for anything in particular, or just for general use?

Thanks.

Hex key I believe is for closing the sunroof/convertible top manually.

Garage List
Mine also has the adaptor for the alloy wheel locking bolt in there. My 3 Series had the adaptor in a special slot in the boot well, but the M235i seems not to have this. I suppose the toolkit is as good a place as any for it.

Excellent idea. Mine had been floating around in the glove compartment, and I have relocated it as you suggested. Thanks!

Thanks. I had forgotten all about that. And the owners manual indicates the screwdriver is used for the same procedure.

does the fuse box in the engine compartment take a hex to get the cover off? and do the battery terminals loosen with a hex bolt? I'm too lazy to walk out to the car and check

The 'screwdriver' is a whole toolkit!

I was underwhelmed when I saw the cheesy phillips screwdriver the first time. Especially since seeing the awesome toolkits that used to be built into the trunk lids on 70-80's BMW's. I felt rather cheated.

But, after looking at it a bit more, I realized that it's really much more than a dumb screwdriver. First, the bit comes out and reverses to a flat blade.

Second, (and this is where it starts to get cool), the ends of the handle have hex sockets in them. One end is 8mm, the other is 10mm. You can also stick the blade into a hole in the handle to convert it to a T-wrench.

With this tool you can completely undo all the fasteners on the tail lights so you can take them off and swap out a bulb. The hex also fits the panel locks over the brake cylinder and and fuse panel under the hood. There's probably a few more things it fits, but I haven't figured out what yet. I've attached a few pictures below.

(Still feel a bit cheated we don't have a toolkit in the trunk lid though. )

Trunklid tool kit. Plug-in flashlight. Spare wheel. Jack and lug wrench. A few things that have been axed to save cost and weight.
