Question for MPE guys

I don't think this has come up yet so maybe I'm imagining things, but I just installed a set of OEM CF tips PN 18302355889 on my MPE without diffuser I think PN 18302293766.

I pushed them on all the way made sure the M was lined up properly then tightened the set screw. To my eye they look like they're ever so slightly angled in towards the center of the vehicle, like the pipes on the actual MPE are pinched in a bit. Has anyone else noticed this? Am I crazy?

I've had the MPE for about a year but had been reusing my stock tips with the springs inside so they are more forgiving and car be adjusted to be at a different angle.

I have not noticed that with my carbon tips. But I have the MP diffuser as well.

And I assume the MPE for the diffuser not the one I have with extensions?

I don't know how many folks are running stock diffuser with CF tips assume not a ton.

Correct, no extension for me. Perhaps the extension exaggerates an inherit angle of the pipes that I would not notice with the shorter pipes.

Yeah who knows lots of variables at play. Appreciate the response though.

May try mounting them without pushing on as fast as they will go and see what happens. Beyond that next time it's in for service I'll let the pros sort it out.

The standard stainless tips on mine lined up fine when I installed it on the weekend.

Did the same thing, pushed on as far as they could go an tightened. MPE with no diffuser.

Can you see any appreciable angle inwards on the bare pipes themselves without tips?

I thought maybe but who knows - that's even harder to tell with smaller pipes.

I was going to do the stainless ones but got such a good deal on CF I went that route.

Maybe I need an exhaust shop to either bend the tube from the box or file down the edge so it's square. Think we're rapidly moving past my ability to make adjustments.

Sorry for the ignorance, but are there 2 different MPEs -- one with diffuser, one without?

OP, have you measured the distance between the tips (at the very end and also maybe like 6 inches in) to see if there's a difference?

Yes there are 2 MPE options. The MP diffuser sticks out further than the stock one, so the pipes onto which you mount the tips (CF or otherwise) are longer on the one for the diffuser upgrade.

If you want to upgrade the diffuser and use the stock exhaust they sell extension pipes.

I don't follow your measuring suggestions at all sorry. I'm just going to put a 6' level across it. If they are square then contact on the tip will be flush. I suspect only the outer edges will touch.

I think he saying measure the distance between the pipes at the diffuser without the tips and then go under the car and do the same measurement a little further back then you'll know if your tail pipes aren't bent toward each other.

Thanks for the clarification, BEM-S4.

And yes, frenchfry675 explained it better for me. I tried to draw it on paint, lol.

Yep, now I understand. Couldn't for the life of me figure out what you meant!

I didn't have a 6 foot level but I did use a broom handle and the tips may in fact be square but look off due to the curve of the diffuser, so an optical illusion. I want to check with a level since I know it's 100% straight and also measure per your suggestion. Might end up making them crooked so they look straight versus being straight and looking crooked.

I've got the MPE with no extending pipes, the MP diffuser, and 3.5" BMS slip-on black gloss slash cut tips. It looks absolutely perfect.

I don't see any angling in of the pipes, but the tips are only about 1/2" beyond the edge of the diffuser.

I thought the BMS tips wouldn't work with the MPE. Any trouble fitting them? Is there enough room with the springs that you could adjust them side to side a bit? Were they easy to get on? Dealer reused my stock tips and getting them off was a struggle. Any pics you could share?

The CF ones are brand new I haven't driven the car with them I could always resell them.

BMS tips fit. They just require a little more force.
