Warning on spark plugs from Burger Tuning (BMS)

Burger tuning (BMS) lists the NGK 95770 as 1 step colder for the N55, but it's not. It's the OEM heat range. I assumed with BMS tuning the N55 since day 1 that they would be a reliable source.

I'm pretty pissed as I just installed them with a .018 gap. Luckily I run e35 so it should not be that big of a concern with it's higher ignition temp, but will have to swap them out again once I go PS2 (perhaps before the end of the year).

With NGK you want 8 (1 step colder for FBO+tune) or a 9 (2 step colder for maxed out PS2) heat range.

NGK 97506 SILZKBR8D8S is an 8 and this is actually what NGK recommends as the OEM replacement for the m235i. With the normal n55 engines they recommend the OEM heat range as a factory replacement.

Just wanted to give you a heads up.

I'm still looking for a 2 step colder plug.

I just laughed at this because i ran into the exact same thing a few months ago. I thought i was getting 1 step colder with 95770... I got OEM Apparently the description is for N54 not N55.

Yet the description mentions N55. Can't wait to spend another $100 on plugs. Yay.

I just went with the ngk 9706 for my fbo + meth gapped to .22. the car seems to run great. I just did a track day on them too.

Not saying that ngk is wrong, but I like to think burger tunning is a pretty reliable and research/testing intensive company.

I wonder if they did their own testing and found it to be a colder plug?

Although ngk says it's an equivalent, maybe it's not. I know a 200 treadwear can vary a decent amount across brands. I wouldn't be surprised if other components married too.

But hey... maybe the info is wrong. I'm curious to know now.

Do you mean the 97506? That is actually 1 step colder, but not 2 as BMS states. For the n55 anyway.

I think it's more likely that BMS just uses the same description for the n55 as the n54. Also with the tighter gap that BMS recommends it will still show an improvement in the logs (my logs/timing are better) if you're FBO+tune, but the improvement is not from them being a colder plug.

I just read a big post on the n55 3 series forum. They also mention it's not a colder plug.

E85 also helps with this.

E85 also helps with this as it has a much higher ignition temperature.
yes, the 97506. Well at least I am 1 step colder. My stock plugs were still fine, but I swapped them preemptively. Stock gap when I took them out was around .025
