M235i Alignment Recomendations

Just installed Dinan springs with the appropriate bump stops and looking for alignment recommendations. The car will not be driven in either a track or on autocross and looking for specs to keep tire ware to the minimum.

Thanks in advance.

Stick with OEM factory specs, little bit of negative toe-in. Generally the closer your front toe is to 0.. The less wear you will have.

Np, you should end up with a little extra negative camber, Because of the springs, but that is normal. These cars feel so much better with added camber in corners, IE. on/off ramps

I know the front camber is out of my control but could anyone suggest what negative toe I should be aiming for? Also, I'll be mounting a 18x9.5 ET45 / 255 wheel / tire in the back that I want to tuck a bit more. Is -1.6 to -1.8 for street still recommended?

Related question. What are people thoughts on alignment when doing springs.

Should you get aligned immediately and then get one a week or two later after settlement has occured?

Or is the imediately alignment a waste of money?

Do twice: first time immediately, second time a few weeks after. If you don't do it immediately it may be too much out of spec and you may ruin your tires fairly quickly. Second time when it all settles.

Drive the car see how it feels if it pulls one way or the other then you know it's badly out of alignment and you shouldn't wait too long. You should've scheduled one already the next day or so, but if your like me i waited a few weeks.. I wouldn't waste your money getting two alignments. regardless alignments are statically setting something that is naturally dynamic. If you get two alignments on the same day, you will get two different results. The car never settles to the exact same spot, tire pressures are not always the same, etc etc.

When i swapped from OEM springs to Dinan springs. I had an alignment check a few months before when i installed new hankook tires, and then after installing the springs. But i waited around 2 weeks after installing the springs. The car felt good, i got it setup with a bit more camber, and adjusted the toe for mixed street/track use.

-2.5 camber front, 0 toe
-2.25 camber rear, 1/8" toe in total

Are you able to achieve -2.25 camber in the rear with the stock camber bolt? Or do you have adjustable camber arms for the rear?

You can do -2.25 in the rear on stock components. Front will require camber plates. I think with camber plates and coilovers, max is -3.7 for the fronts.

I have my 235xi set to -2.25 in the rear., no problem with stock adjusters. I just have Dinan springs.

I have GC v2 Camber plates in the front, Dinan springs. Can barely squeeze -2.25. The OEM Spring width is the limiting factor, they will start to rub the inside of the fender well if you are trying to squeeze any more that that.

I just put my Dinan’s on and went to a local shop for an alignment. They said they couldn’t do BMW’s due to the require machine and weights. Is all this still requires on aftermarket springs? Can I just go to any shop and get a regular alignment and bypass the OEM requirements? This is a daily, may do some auto-x, but tire life is the priority

I apologize if this is not the right thread to introduce a related question, but that being said: Like everyone's, my m235i is camber challenged. Last weekend, a guy at an autocross (AAX at Crow's Landing CA) said that I could drive out the pins on top of the front strut towers and gain another 1/2 degree of camber adjustment. Does anyone have any experience with this? I really want to stay in F Street, so camber plates or new bushings seem to be out. Thanks.

I wonder what the best alignment specs are for straight places like south Florida, where there's no twisties and emphasis falls on tire wear

Get as close to 0 as possible within the factory spec camber and toe ranges.
