the oem and ebay are basically the same.
They will break the same... Im on my 4th splitter, after 1 CF, 2 oem, ill only buy the ebay ones to save money. Use some vhb 3m tape and some self tapping screws with washers. Use a bunch of screws to make sure its on there very securely. You can put it on yourself in about 10 mins. If your worried about being to low, it should be fine on OEM ride height, just avoid drive ways. This photo shows on dinan springs, i have maybe a 1" clearence and avoid all drive ways as possible.

A couple of picks and clearance measurement in this thread:
http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1341542 I'm lowered on Dinan springs and haven't scrapped once even on steep driveways. Unfortunately this morning I couldn't avoid some semi-truck tread in the road, ran over it and it tore the splitter off. Back to start for me.

Apply some direct heat, but don't damage the car, pull on the lip, they will come right off. If your lucky, the old glue will come off with it as well.

Actually I didn't! She's pretty much fine with my "addiction" and likes the car too. She spent 4 hours helping me install to my new diffuser, few hours installing the lip and since she likes photography, sometimes she photoshoots the car :-D. |

Just installed the splitter on my car -- had the "wings" painted body color and lower painted semi-matt black -- looks great. You have about 4" ground clearance on stock suspension, which isn't much, but enough to clear typical speed bumps. I've read plenty of horror stories in these discussions about people folding them under on various items, but my commute has been decent. Today, however, piece of metal (looked like some plumbing fixture) in the road, and I did clip it, but no damage -- would have easily cleared without splitter. Odd thing, my gas mileage has gone up significantly (4mpg avg) since install -- anyone else experience this?

BTW -- I'd like to have a conversation with the engineer who decided to provide the stupid philips head screws instead of the nicer bolt-head screws used for original trim connections. That was the only true pain in the arse during the install -- and keeping the piece behind the grill from popping up when mounting those center screws. Make sure to follow the instructions BMW provides (you can find them in this forum) for install -- trust the process.

Ha, maybe the first day as I made sure there were no critical path issues, but I do mainly highway driving on same route every day, and NEVER got a 30MPG day as was indicated on a Long Term Test Car piece (R&T or C&D - don't remember), even using the sissy mode on the car. Post splitter, had a 31 MPG day, and overall average up 4 mpg. I can't imagine it matters that much, if at all -- theoretically more downforce would = more drag, right?

I installed the splitter recently and had a very hard time with the screws because of the philips head screws. Is there a trick to getting these suckers in short of just forcing them? I got them to go in as far as I could, but they were not flush, especially the ones in the middle.

splitter mounting
Does anyone know the part number for the plastic piece under the front bumper that the splitter mounts to? Does it come with the OEM splitter? I enclosed a photo from the install procedure. the one on my car is cracked and I am having a hard time finding the part number.
