Loud cooling fan

So I was driving around today. About 80 degrees farenheight. I was trying to find a parking spot for about 30 minutes ( slow driving) and eventually parallel parking on a steep hill in an extremely tight spot. ( A lot of throttle modulation and reversing while on the brakes)

The engine fan seemed to be pretty loud right before I turned the car off. Anyone think that's normal operation or is it possible failing water pump?

2016 m235i fbo with jb4. Also does being fbo put more or less strain on the water pump? Or is it unrelated?

Do the electric water pumps gradually die or do they just go? Belt driven water pumps make a vacuum or blower fan noise when failing.

Probably just the fan powering up to compensate for no incoming air over the radiator, I THINK that has happened to me a few times after parking but not having yet turned off engine.

This was before I turned off the engine. Once I turn it off it stopped within 3 seconds.

That's pretty normal when hot out and not moving much as there isn't enough airflow to keep things cool. I had my fan go out and the car went into limp mode in stop and go traffic. Once I got up to 30 mph and the air was moving things were ok again.

Was your A/C on at the time and did you check your oil & coolant temp when it happened..?

Warm day, prior driving with a hot motor, lots of low speed maneuvering, lots of things in close proximity of the car to bounce noise off of = loud cooling fan.

I did open the hood and it was very loud.

I have never noticed fan noise in my car. I have actually wondered if it was kickng on as needed because it was so quiet. I could have sworn that i read somewhere in the 2er eection or 3 series section that there was a known issue with N55 fan motors making loud noise and failing but i could be wrong and i cant remember where i read it...

I just found multiple threads on water pump on older N55's failing or on their way out causing the fan to operate at full speed or close to it intermittently before warranty expiration. I would hope they rectified those issues in the later N55's but who knows. Have you read of premature failures in the F platforms..?

There have been occasions where my fan was louder but it was hot out, had been driving a while, etc. It's normal. Every late model car does this. The fans are variable.

I haven't. I thought there was a recall on the 2014 n55 water pumps, but I'm not exactly sure. Mines 2016 I would hope that it would be rectified as well.

I'm not going to worry about it too much. Next time I am under the car I'll just do a visual inspection of the fan. I know it was a tights squeeze putting the new intercooler in. Maybe I bumpes it outta place or something.

Are there any test or logs that you can run to check for a failing water pump
