Heated seat question

Hello,

I’m new to the forum and looking to get an m235i. I searched and could not find the answer to this question.

Are the heated seats just heated on your butt, or is the portion that contacts your back also heated? I have a bad back and the heat helps when driving. Thanks!

Backrest, base and adjustable thigh extension (on the sports seats) are all heated. On Canadian cars (not sure about all US ones), a heated steering wheel is also standard.

It goes up relatively high on the backrest, too. It's also possible to code the seat cooler than the backrest, so if you mostly want it for your back, you don't have to deal with your hind-end being as warm

BMW's heated seats are among the best. On the sport seats, both the butt and back bolsters have heating components, and yes the heat goes basically all the way up the back rest. You can see that on the picture from the parts catalog below...the components on the right are sport seat components.

On most cars it's nowhere near this much. On Audis, after 10 minutes it goes from hottest setting to next setting down. And they won't reprogram it at dealer. One thing to note...if you have car in auto start/stop mode, when car goes off, heated seat power goes off/down. Avoid this by turning that feature off, or moving transmission to sport mode at stoplights (if you have auto).

I will say the heated sport seats are among the best I've used.

only the ones in my 2009 cayman got hotter...and that may have been due more to the way the porsche seats just envelope the driver

An extension thought: The heat on the current-gen Cayman is nowhere near as good as on the BMW. That and your observation are interesting to me because the best heated seats I've had on a car -- by a considerable margin, even above the BMWs -- were on a 2002 MkIV GTI. Seems to me that sometime between 2009 and now, VW AG turned down the dial (as it were) on its heated-seat tech.

None of them are as hot as they used to be...there were issues with malfunctions and people being burned, apparently. But only here in America where they can sue. Other places, people figure out their ass is getting too hot and just turn it down/off, of course!

The heated steering wheel is my favorite winter feature which I use more than the heated seats. Come to think about it, that I've only used the heated seat once. Heated steering wheel heats up fast and virtually eliminates the need for glove while driving the car. Wife loves the heated seats on both my M240 and her 335xi.
