I am getting the M-P LSD installed in my 235i at my original dealer soon! They quoted a labor cost of $160 an hour @ 4.5 hours required. I know the labor time is excessive, however, the gave me a great price on the actual unit ($2160) so I'm not sweating it. However, they are now telling me that the LSD unit does not come with oil included, so it'll cost me an additional $160 for three .5 liters of gear oil. According to BMW service bulletin for the LSD, it states that it comes delivered with oil and I assume that BMW will not release such a part, which is exposed to heat and cold climates during shipping, not lubricated, due to the possibility of corrosion build up within. Can someone please confirm to me that the M-P LSD does in fact comes with the locking differential gear oil already included or if I am sadly mistaken. Thank you in advance.

$160 seems pretty high for three liters of fluid. They are probably trying to make up lost money for the LSD. Sorry I cannot answer the rest of your question, I imagine it is the same fluid.

IIRC the unit is not supposed to be user serviceable. Here is the sticky http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showt...t=limited+slip
page 3- The unit is delivered with oil page 6- The Limited-slip differential is maintenance free |

However, I'd be concerned with it not being serviceable in the future because it is a clutch based LSD and those clutches do wear out... |

I know the manual says so, but differential removal may not be required for a fluid refresh. GM has been omitting the drains on many of their differentials for years. The easiest way to do a fluid change on a GM diff is to insert a thin ~1/8 inch relatively stiff piece of plastic tubing (polyethylene) into the differential and pump out the the fluid. A hair dryer can be used to shape the tubing to fit as close to the bottom of the case as possible.
If you can not get all the fluid out, 2-3 "drain and fills" with clean oil will remove the majority of the old fluid, which should be good enough if you make differential oil changes part of your regular maintenance. |

I had the M-P LSD installed today and I've confirm that it does in fact come with diff fluid already pre-filled. As I assumed, it's basically plug and play from the factory.. The dealer honestly did not know this until the tech verified it upon installation. My service writer didn't even know what was is an LSD or its purpose.. All and all, the unit is in and I love it! It makes a noticeable difference on aggressive take offs (No more DSC light) and very responsive around sharp turns; it feels like how an 'M Performance' vehicle should of been from the factory.. If you have the means, I highly recommend it...

I guess you got most of the questions answered, but let me add one more point after installation: I'm pretty sure you should have a break in period when you install an LSD.
