B58 M240i Rev Matching 6 Speed Manual

Now that the 340i with the B58 has been announced with updated flywheel and rev matching, how do you guys feel about this? Are you guys looking forward to it or would you rather rev match/heel toe on your own?

I think thats weird. Isnt there an option to switch it off? I love matching and heel & toeing myself.

Trying to make it easier to drive a stick for those that don't know how to do it. Lame in my opinion.

A friend if mine just got a 2015 Cayman with the sports chrono package. In that car the auto-rev matching only works when the car is in sport plus. Hopefully BMW implements it in a similar way.

I currently drive a manual car and enjoy doing it myself, however, a short drive in the cayman with the rev matching on was really fun.

I love driving manual, but it'd be nice to have a perfect rev match every downshift. I'd welcome it.

Better to do it yourself, if you mess up the downshift then its your fault, not the car's lol

I don't even like the hill assist, I don't care about rev-matching.

i have driven a car with it. its pretty cool. basically if i was in 3 and wanted to shift into 2nd, as soon as the gear selector hit neutral the revs went upto 4k and held until 2nd gear is selected, dont even need to use accelerator, not sure if bmw will work just like that.

would def want a button to turn that off tho, part of the fun is doing it yourself.

I had a 2011 370z with it; I think it was one of the first U.S.-market manual cars to have it. Absolutely beautiful thing, particularly on a RWD car with gobs of power. It made power sliding/drifting much more controllable ... and the downshifts quicker to power.

(Then again, I can't heel-and-toe in very many cars with a size 14 shoe. So: YMMV)

If its like the m3/m4 is now if you put it in sport plus it won't rev match. Otherwise it will.

I REALLY REALLY hope that's something you can turn off. Only manual fans buy manuals these days, and these die hard manual fans like to heel and toe, so taking it completely away will spoil the manual choice!

LOL at so called BMW manual fans. BMW manuals are boring to drive, because too easy - clutch delay valve, now rev-matching, light clutch pedal, etc...

I prefer a smooth CVT for comfort, a neck snapping SMT for performance, or a f*ck*ng hard-core un-synchronized MT for thrill (but any JDM synchronized MT is also very good).

This feature in the M3/M4 is awesome! If the new 340i does have it, it will be a good thing.

And yes, when in Sport+ it shuts the feature off.

I thought dual-mass flywheels have been in all manual BMWs (N52, N54, N55, etc) of the last few years. Or is OP referring to a more minor change for the flywheel?

I thought so too...maybe someone can shed some light on that!

Check out the F30 LCI Press Release, they said there's some new dampening on the flywheel…

I tried it in a 370Z. It's actually pretty cool, and I've been driving manuals since the late 80's.
I can rev match, not always perfect but it's fun to do and try.
The auto rev match is still really cool as it's near perfect every time.

I agree that it should have an "off switch for when the driver wants to have more manual fun.
For daily commuting it'll be great and make things smoother, imo and experience.
