Weird noise coming from the top (passenger) of the engine block

Hello all,
I am new to the forum, so it's nice to meet everyone virtually. I have a 2018 M2 with 32K miles, and it's been amazing until recently. When idle, I started hearing a weird slow tapping/knocking noise coming from the top left (passenger side) of the engine. I haven't noticed any rattling when driving, nor does it affect any performance that I can tell.

Please look at the video and listen to see if you have experienced it before and what the problem was.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Oh man that doesn't sound reassuring.

Do you have any codes?

Thanks for the reply! No codes. When I slightly bring up the RPM, I don't hear it, only the engine noise.

It's not the exact same cause, because my noise sounded different and was on the driver side, but I had a vacuum hose start to come loose which resulted in a weird noise that was kind of similar. The cause was a plastic fitting that was literally crumbling away due to heat. No code appeared but I'm sure it would have eventually popped up if I had let the issue progress.

I would poke around the engine bay with a flashlight while the car is running. You may find something similar.

man,you are awesome! I poked around wastegate rattle and this is the exact sound I hear from the car https://www.youtube.com/shorts/SuqgxJAtM2c
the question is: how do I fix it? is it a simple replacing of the wastegate or from reading, I may have to replace the turbo all together.

I think MDrives has a few videos on it. This is one.

Hopefully you can get help from something there. It's a common issue so there has to be a fix.
