Two kids at my university have M3s and there's only about 1k students in total. You'd be surprised what the upper echelon let their kids drive.

Putting an M badge on the... oh wait.

Seriously though, rice is about mods which aren't tasteful. Extreme camber on rear wheels to tuck a rim way too wide is rice. Vinyl wrapped roof in CF design, rice. Side vents from a 4 series,

high school kid with a brand new m235I isn't THAT different than one with an STI or BRZ. Hilarious that some here won't buy one because they don't want to 'seem like a HS kid"? Is this a joke I'm missing?

As for topic, I'd say it's a hybrid -- Luxury Sports Coupe. That's BMW to me - sport with luxury. Hard to say luxury isn't in there when there are cheaper, faster options out there.Ricer though? That's something people do to abuse the car, could happen to any poor car!

You could probably consider it a luxury coupe if you were willing to say "entry-level" first. But personally, the term "entry-level [anything]" makes me cringe, because it suggests inexperience or a barely-qualified buyer, and there are lots of reasons someone with plenty of experience and money to burn would still go for the "entry level" option (e.g., those who find the 4 series to be too big).

Marketing-wise, trying to cater to both crowds reminds me of new developments of smaller homes with nice finishes, marketed to young people as "entry-level" luxury homes and marketed to old people as "perfect for downsizing." I sometimes wonder why they don't just say what they mean and coin the term "exit-level." But I digress...

The point is, it doesn't really matter what you call it; it matters what you get out of it. You can worry about how what others do to their cars affects the perception of your own, but at the end of the day, it still drives the same no matter what you or anyone else calls it.

Nope not a joke, 99% i see that drives brz/sti in my neck of the woods are teenagers with picnic table rear spoilers and tin can exhaust and yes we categorize them as ricers here. Nothing wrong with that but its not my style is what Im trying to say. Maybe in your hood those ricers may be mustang drivers, civic driver or m235i drivers

I chose the 235i for several reasons:

Size: I drive alone 97% and 3& with only one passenger (empty nester)
Price: Budget was 50k; same car in a 435 was $57,450, and sitting inside as a driver, looked about the same.
Power: Plenty for the street, easily tuneable if more power needed
Looks: Love the look of the car

Will I mod? Yes. Black grills, amber marker delete, probably 19" wheels/tires when the run flats wear out, performance exhaust, maybe better mirror caps.

Ricer, no.
