So it would make sense, but still be terribly disappointing nonetheless. At least the M2 would have a rear wheel drive and LSD advantage ... for now.
Scott26 has mentioned this before. But yeah it would make sense to go along the lines of the A45 and CLA45. It's all about emissions and fuel consumption these days..

I am pretty sure this was a test of some sorts for the configuration before going live next month, but it looks like someone forgot to make it private or what not. Nice catch dude!

I bet Jason is somewhere scratching his head, not being sure how to handle this.
Thanks! I know I was pretty shocked too. It's now blowing up all over the internet!

Sounds very intresting! It will defenetly be in my look into list for my next car.

But only 18x8in rear wheels?? there is no room for tire with increase... and No LSD, traction will come into play... Also forget about concave rims.

That wasn't the case with the 1M.

Sorry, I can't seem to find it, but Scott26 has said so in a previous post. It's not a confirmation per se (sorry I worded it wrong) but Scott26 is a pretty reliable insider source. I will look for the post again.

Yes the fuel consumption is ridiculously good, not matter which way you convert it.

Keep in mind Scott has been wrong or inaccurate on plenty of info in the past and he's a marketing guy at BMW, not engineer or product manager.

M-sport, sport line and modern line will be available, according to the now defunct configurator. This is slightly different to the F20 1 series's hatch pM-sport, sport line and URBAN line. There was nothing about the luxury line.

Very true. If you look at the interview where there say that an M2 with a four cylinder is possible, but not in the near future and the fact that scott keeps on stressing (even in this thread) that the M2 will not debut in the near future, he is suggesting that the 4 cylinder is possibly the engine choice.

This is speculation and NOT confirmation as I have incorrectly said previously.

All this uncertainty around whether there will or won't be a 4 or 6 cylinder M2 or not....

There could of course be an Alpina based on the 2 series

Rim Choices

This car definitely needs a 19 inch rim. A small detail in the grand scheme, but enough to potentially make me look at aftermarket wheel options.

What is the consensus on performance parts? Do we expect cosmetic accessories (diffuser, spoiler, kidney grille), to be available upon the immediate release of the car? I would like to build those costs into my lease.

Aftermarket parts are always there...this shouldn't even be a question. Typically during the release of a new car BMW will release parts...and then after market vendors just into the mix.

As for cost - no one in the world knows this...so just budget X amount or whatever you feel okay with spending.

Also 19" wheels are over kill for this car. Probably won't be an option. It's not an option for the current 1 Series...and chances are it won't be for the 2 Series.

I just noticed no HUD either am I the only who feels like all cars from now on should offer HUD as an option?? It's so practical not having to take your eyes off the road

In my opinion, the 19 on the 1M looks a lot better than the 18 on the 35.

Regardless, not a big deal.

I am certainly aware that there will be plenty of aftermarket parts, I would just prefer to stay OEM if possible.

Also, my question wasn't so much what the cost of the BMW performance parts will be, as much as it was: will the parts be revealed at the same time as the car is revealed?

It has varied in the past.
