Weird exhaust sound
Hi all,
For some reason my 228i sounds like a tractor at startup, it is extremely humiliating Any idea what caused it? Video: Last edited by PowerfulF22; 11-11-2017 at 07:41 PM.. |

You should stop putting diesel fuel in it.

Does the 228i have an exhaust flap? I honestly can't hear much on my work computer as I only get the speaker via monitor. You should hear my catless dp/MPE on start-up, John Deere himself would be impressed!

Yes there is a flap. The sound is just weird, like a tractor or a lawnmower

Okay, tried it on my phone..
It almost sounds like the starter motor isn't releasing fast enough, if that makes sense? It sounds like it's staying in contact with the starter ring gear once the engine RPMs have passed the rate of speed in which the starter motor is turning. And you can almost hear the engine "choke" from the drag of the starter. It happens, just not very often. My best guess, that is Take it to the dealer, warranty!!!

I have scheduled my service at the end of November, I'll see what I can do because honestly, Brian Jessel's service department is just a piece of sh*t. Also, this is going to be my second year service, is there anything to remind them? |

I doubt they do much aside inspect and report on a 2yr? They claim almost everything fluid wise is "lifetime" service, so aside from oil/lube I doubt you'll get much extra, unless it's covered under the maintenance plan. I do more preventative maintenance than the dealer, so I don't bother having them service it, aside from oil changes when its convenient.. Maybe someone who's been through a 2yr service can shed some light in that department..

Inspect undercarriage for coolant or oil leaks Grease all moving hinges, hood/trunk latch, etc. Fluid levels and condition checks (I use test strips for the coolant) Inspect the Serpentine Belt Inspect charge piping (especially if you have the OE plastic pipes) Front End check, for play in ball joints, tie rods, end links, check all bushings for separation, etc.. Check and set Tire Pressures Check brakes, grease pins if completely dry (best practice, some never do this) I Re-Torque Wheels to 105 (103 is OE spec) I shampoo my engine after an oil change, completely unnecessary, but hey. Don't forget that most of what the Dealer is doing is overlooking the car, looking for deficiencies in the drive line, fluid leaks, etc, not so much "servicing" the car, which is just the oil change service itself.. They follow a pretty specific guideline, provided by BMW. The dealer did my brake fluid once while in for an oil service, without mentioning it, and they actually flushed my race fluid (Motul RBF660), I was pissed but couldn't really justify making an issue of it, as I could open doors to conversations I'd rather not have with my SA And don't forget, they get paid by BMW NA for doing these services, as per the maintenance plan, which is why they're KEEN on doing them, when they can.
