$5k Premium on M235i
Was getting an oil change on my M235i at Century West BMW in Studio City(CA). Saw a sweet white 235 in their showroom, optioned out nicely with splitter, spoiler, blades, pedals, perf exhaust, electronic steering wheel & some $4k rims. It looked nice. Then I saw the sticker. It included a $5k "market adjustment" added. Sales guy said they're in very high demand. I was a bit shocked to see a $65k sticker on it. Skating very close to M3 territory. Anyone else seeing premiums like this?

No second sticker in my area. The M235i is rarely in stock. But dealer websites have never had them offered for over sticker price.

Given the location of that dealer and the type of people that pass through that area of California, I'm sure they will sell it with the markup.
Someone who wants those added mods to differentiate it from others and wants something on the spot would snatch it up. Very few markets can pull it off and that is one of them. Another would be Miami. |

Ha.....ha.....haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
So they slapped on all the goodies at MSRP Pricing, $4K Rims and then an additional $5K on top of that. Are they trying to sell a car or just keep it on the showroom floor forever?

There's a big difference between "high demand" and low availability. It's not that BMW is selling the shit out of 2 series it's that they just have not built many. YTD world wide sales thru the end of May was between 7-8,000 total units which is a tiny market. That's all versions of the 2 not just M235. We all think they are selling like crazy but it's only because there is no inventory. They probably do this the first year to keep the price close to sticker so when they make more availability the bottom doesn't fall out. Remember two door coupes never sell like 4 door sedans and these aren't cheap. You can get a pretty loaded Mustang for $30K (not V8) and these start at $34K.

I'm assuming BMW is having no trouble selling every M235i they make. Not so sure about the 228i. Regardless, I don't believe anyone in the US saw "real life" cars until late February, so it's really only been 4-5 months on the market.
For that area in CA, someone will probably pay it. It's ridiculous though. |

I lived in Studio City. It's not quite BelAir... haha
I should go check it out, just to see what the MP mods look like in person, although I did see an Estoril Blue pass me the other day with the front lip. Looked nice. I think I prefer the LeMans Blue from the e92 line of M-Sports, but EB looks cool. |

How stupid that this car isn't even loaded!! No cold weather, no driver assistance, no HK
If you're going to spend that much, shouldn't the car come loaded with options?? |

Agreed. I guess if you walk in, love how it looks and MUST have it…then $65k is not too high. :-)

My local dealer has had numerous on their lots without any markup. Including a red one that has been there since launch. It now has a orange sale tag hanging from the mirror.
Not a small market either, they have over 40 people on wait list for the new M3/M4. |

Some people work for a living, others grift for a living. People who work for a living care about prices. Those who steal for a living (bankers, lobbyists, lawyers, politicians, salesmen, MBAs) could care less what the price is. They have access to the unlimited fount of dollars sloshing around the globe that the rest of us slave away our life's blood to earn.
