I'm hoping it's different enough that I won't be bored. Or get some special order bits. Otherwise it's goona be TTS.
TTS has a 2.0 that is not even close IMO.

I'm so happy for the people who want a kickass 2 series that can't wait in line for the M2. I was so lucky to get my car, if I hadn't gotten it, I'd be thrilled right now, although I personally would have probably gone outside the brand if I couldn't have gotten the M2.

I do however really for bad for a recent M235i buyers. But I guess this was a fairly predictable evolution.
I don't think anyone should be surprised if they did their homework. 240 has been rumored for quite some time. This is actually good news for those looking to score a smoking good deal on a 235 leftover in the fall.
Good point ..

Hmm... Could this be another factor my M235i's build has been delayed.

N.B. I was aware of the change and it meant I could get a good deal at the time I ordered.

No, but it's fun to drive and the interior is amazing. Maybe just need a change. Boredom is not good.

So I'm in a unique situation as I just ordered my 228 with M-Sport, Manual Transmission and Harman Kardon on Saturday the 14th. I don't have a build# or anything so I wonder if it will be built as is or moved to a 230? No response yet from my dealer

The engine is powerful, but you'll need to consider suspension, brakes, etc. The usual M Non-M considerations. I've done both with the E36 platform. I bought a 325 used and updated the suspension to suit myself, though I didn't do the brakes. Later in life I bought a 332i (er, US spec M3) which is a cleaner execution of all of the bits with niceties like subframe reinforcement, etc.

You can build a solid facsimile, and I'm sure Dinan will do great job in the US, but I suspect once you've done the mods, you've ended up paying more than a stock M2.

YMMV, which is part of the fun.

I already loved the 8AT transmission on the M235i, but I wonder if the "new generation" of the auto box has improved shift times even further.
Also, didn't see anywhere if BMW is still offering the LSD as an option.

My 228i lease ends next March, and whether I decide to buy the car off lease or order a new 230i will depend on the availability of a manual. I'd hate to see BMW restrict manuals to the high-performance models alone.
You can get them both in manual, BUT not xdrive manual's anymore....

A 6MT M240Xi coupe would be a fun car when modded...!!

And with BMW removed loads of stuff of their warranty list i would be extremely careful, So let a couple of 100-200 people buy it in the first year of 2017 then follow BMW forums closely look what they have for type of issue and buy a late 2018 LCI model and you are are pretty safe from that point on .

And a lot of people here tend to put the 235/240 against the M2 i think you should avoid doing that cause thees two cars even though they look a lot like each other on the outside they are breed for two different purposes. The M2 being the latest one is a track monster yes it will be a good daily drive but on the track is where it will shine the most where you can push it to its limits without worrying about killing anyone except yourself. Whilst the 235/240 they are good on the track but even better on the roads dealing with day to day issues. My biggest issue with the 235/240 is the weird tire offset and sometimes i wish they would have designed it for a bit larger tires tbh.

But for me i am mostly exited about a M240 Grand Coupe if it arrives i want a 5 door saloon so badly but i don't like the 3/4 series and the M3 is good value these days tbh with the S55 it just might be an option in the future but its design is getting old so BMW better be putting out a new 3/4 series soon

So relax people its still a 235 though called 240 from now on just with a new engine the rest will probably be the same, Suspension wise the same, tire size the same probably, the damn brake dust that drives ya mad the same, the exhaust the same. The design of the car the same until LCI pops up.

I wonder though if these new bhp figures are going to be spot on when tested on a dyno or lower or higher then what it states. Cause the 235i develops more then what papers said if i am not mistaken when i read this a long while ago.

Remember there will always be a newer better car then the one you own, So its like when you drive on the Highway no matter how many cars you pass there is always someone ahead of you.
You're not incorrect about the new engines. But keep in mind that the B58 will have been in production in the 3 and 7 for a full year by the time the 2 gets it. One year won't get every bug out it certainly allows time to fix large issues

I love how BMW likes to (excuse my language) f**k their customers!

1. model designation change mid cycle... M235i value will drop (regardless of new or old engine)

2. Power: so close to M2... Despite M cars will always handle better on track, it doesn't bold well for the M2 regardless. Why make it so close?

I don't see how the meager hp/tq increase from the 228i's output merits the promotion to "230i" nomenclature. I'm all for pure marketing but let's not make it so obvious

Until the M2 is sold at a discount like the M235/M240, around $10,000. +

The M2 forum is blowing up about this, too.

Some people keep saying the true value of the M2 comes when you're at the track. I'd like to see their face after a M240i xDrive spanks them at a red light.

xD
