Eco mode?

Hello All,

Quick question; is there eco mode on the m235i manual? and sport and sport plus? if so how does all this work? obviously sport and sport plus tighten the suspension and take off traction control (in plus) that's it? And what does eco do, just soften the suspension? because you're controlling the shifts. I wanna know what else it's doing to help you save gas, be more "sporty"

thanks

Yes, eco pro is still there. In the manual it'll alter suspension settings to comfort which won't help economy just ride comfort (with m adaptive suspension), tone down the throttle response so you don't use higher rpms as readily and also manage power to the ancillaries such as air con, heater, radio etc to help save power draw from the alternator. The only thing you lose out on with the 6MT in eco pro mode is the shift map change that the 8AT gets. All other features will still be there.

It will also tell you to upshift gears when it thinks you are holding rpms to high.

But don't use it. It is painful.

Technically I suppose you still get "coasting" but it's not very practical to use in a manual. In the auto it is effortless and useful. Coasting is when the car decouples the transmission from the engine to allow the car to roll off its own inertia and letting the engine idle. Kind of like putting the gear in neutral. This happens in the auto anytime you lift your foot off the gas after accelerating and picks up again either when you press the gas or brake moderately.

I only use it when cruising on the highway for a long trip if I'm trying to save some gas. It will tell you how many miles/KMs you've gain by staying in ECO mode. Not entirely clear on what it does with the air con and such, but I assume it does something to help

Don't recommend using it if you have to shift a lot/in the city. The pedal feel change makes it hard to rev match, etc.

It alternates the AC and shuts it off etc automatically here and there to save fuel. The manual breaks it down a bit more and turning the analyzer during driving will show you when it does it and what it's doing it to

Tales of yore tell of a mysterious lever that hath many dark powers:

-It's sorcery doth confuse drivers with maddening colors and lights
-It maketh that which is swift, sloth-like
-It can magically change a snarling growl into a pitiful whimper
-It converteth thy steed from a galloping stallion to plodding nag

I have not see yon "eco mode", but a pox on this black witchcraft!
Prayeth thou dost never come across it...

Lol!

I used EcoPro mode once for a trip to see what it could do for me. Was not impressed. Certainly not worth the pain of using it.

Seriously, if you got this car to drive it in Eco Mode, you should trade it in for a flavorless Prius to match your bland lifestyle.

I use EcoPro mode in the winter if the roads are bad. It seems to help me from giving it too much gas and spinning the tires when starting out from a stop.

I use the eco-pro on the highway almost every morning, I actually quite like it.. it keeps me in check.

As the poster above said, using it in the winter or slippery situations could help with wheel spin.

I tried 'Eco Pro' for about 10 miles and have never used it again in the over 10,000 miles I have on the car now...

2nd gear to mitigate wheel spin in slippery conditions.

Yup it really does a miraculous job of killing all semblance of throttle response.

The climate and coasting features are interesting. If you are driving great distances in cruise control i don't see a downside. It is worth noting that coasting really does let the car coast pretty far. It can be a bit alarming at how much the car keeps its speed without the engine bogging it down. Coasting on a downhill you really start building speed

In the city? Its pretty tough to justify.

There is nothing Eco-mode can do for you that you can't do manually yourself. Better to stick to Sport(or Comfort if you want the auto-stop to work) mode and control your throttle and shift points.

But coasting won't work with cruise control. It's active cruise control, so it's constantly regulating speed and never coasting. I got near triple digits coasting down a mountain highway.
