Any rattles?

Have you guys had to chase down any rattles yet? Just over 600 miles on mine, and I'm hearing my first one. It sounds like it's coming from over my head/to the left of my ear on the driver's side. Either from the headliner or possibly from the roof rack slot cover, only when going over bumps. I'm going to try to remove it and drive around and see if i still hear it.

Coming from a Subaru, this is something I'm used to. Was hoping BMW would be immune but I guess it's something that happens in every car.

No, have had mine for 13 months. It has 5000 miles on it. Not one rattle. First car I have ever owned that did not have some kind of rattle by 5000 miles. Its kinda nice!

I remember reading somewhere in a forum that a guy had the same rattle and it turned out to be loose bolts on the airbag mechanism, several other people apparently had the same issue.

I had one rattle in the same area that was repaired last week. The cover was rubbing against something but they fixed it!

I wrote the earlier thread referred to above. Identical symptoms. I absolutely would not make this a DIY project on a new car. Any trace of your involvement and warranty for that item/area is gone. Mine did indeed turn out to be the side impact airbag module mounting and along the way, the tech did some felt tape/isolation of some other parts to be sure. Car is now rattle free, but dealer did the work while I drove their loaner.

BTW, my 2015 Subie Crosstrek grocery-getter/commuter/winter car is solid...not a rattle! Yet?

Left rear quarter panel area rattle over bumps. Have not had time to investigate it but it sure is annoying!

I only get one rattle from the front speaker in front of the iDrive screen with certain frequencies.. mostly when I'm on the phone.

It's not prevalent enough to complain about though. Other than that my car is 100% (aside from the gash on my side-mirror black base thing)

I have the one that sounds like side airbag, it is above my head slightly to the left.

The other ones I hear is also the rear quarter panel over bumps sometimes, occasional rattling near the rear deck, in the center near the middle speaker, and the passenger door panel rattles sometimes.

Its not terrible, but there is a section of freeway on my way to work, that has some shoddy paving work (its very swirly) causes some very strange vibrations when you drive over it (not just this car, my other car as well) and it is one of the few times that sets off the rattles. Usually though, they aren't there.

I had one in the driver's door (loose harness), one in the map light cluster, and one that still needs fixed in the Bluetooth mic area.

I have had a creaking/squeaking + rattle of the spare tire cover in the trunk rubbing against the rear of the trunk interior. It is only occasional and happens mostly when going over speed bumps or anywhere there is a diagonal load on the car. The car has otherwise been rattle free after ~5500 miles now, which is better than any previous car I have owned (VWs, Mazdas)

You have a spare tire?

As to mine (at some 5,000 miles) - absolutely rattle-free and solid.

HA so soon I forget! I should say...the cover to where a spare tire would be... The cover that lines the bottom of the trunk and sits over the battery

I have 1100 miles on my car. My front doors rattle every time I close the door. I think it's the frameless windows or mechanicsm inside. Gives me an overwhelming feeling of cheapness every single day.

My 228 does same thing, both doors so I assume it's a design issue. Other than that, zero rattles in 12000 miles.

had a rattling in the back near like the back speakers rear window and they fixed it when I brought it in recently for service, was happening at low RPM's when in Sport + from the exhaust, it would rattle it and speed bumps. They applied felt tape to all hard contact areas underneath the deck lid and all hard plastic components.

Take it in. My driver's side had a rattle and is now perfect. Here are the notes from my tech:

CUSTOMER STATES HEARING A RATTLE FROM DRIVERS DOOR WHEN CLOSING WINDOW REGULATOR CABLES UNSECURED AND DOOR PANNEL RATTLEING AGAINST INNER DOOR SEAL.

51-41-000(6)00-50-000(4)PNL 51-41-00-39-00DL

1-CONFIRMED RATTLE IN DRIVERS DOOR WHEN CLOSING. REMOVED DOOR PANNEL TO LOOK FOR LOOSE, MISSING OR DAMAGED COMPONENTS OR PIECES. FOUND WINDOW REGULATOR CABLES NOT SECURED. SECURED WINDOW REGULATOR CABLES TO DOOR AND FULLY REASSEMBLED. CHECKED OPERATION OF DOOR AND FOUND RATTLE STILL PRESENT.

2-REMOVED DOOR PANNEL AND INSERTED A STRIP OF STICKY FOAM ON INSIDE OF DOOR PANNEL NEAR ARMREST. REASSEMBLED DOOR PANNEL AND CHECKED OPERATION. RATTLE NO LONGER PRESENT.

Do you know what exactly they had to do to fix it? Just wondering how invasive of a procedure it is. This rattle is kind of annoying, but i'd rather wait it out if it involves them removing the dash/headliner/tons of other stuff to get to the loose component.

I get a rattle from the dash/gauge pod only when the car has been sitting in very hot weather. Once the interior cools down, it goes away. That's it at 2800 miles.

No, I'm sorry I don't. It was there two days, but they were searching for the root cause. I do know that the instrument panel was not involved.

Thanks and I may mention it to them at my next oil change, but maybe not. I'm a bit worried about the dealer turning a very minor problem into a major one. Doesn't rattle a bit while driving, just when door is slammed shut. Close it gently and no rattle
