I found the source of 1 of my rattles that was driving me nuts. I was stuffing tissue balls all over the place but finally surrendered and had a friend sit in the car. This was a rear deck buzz which seems to happen when it gets cold. It's the rear driver side speaker grill. Pressing on it made the sound go away so I completely removed it for now until I have time for the dealership to take a look.

Rattles...ugh

Do not get me started on rattles. My 230i convertible has been a damn rattlebox since day 1. Its made no less than 10 trips to the dealership and they are just unable to fix them...

1. from the drivers door (they say its the dreaded window rattle and tried gummi pfledge, didn't work; they adjusted the window--now the whole door has a metal on metal clank when going over bumps...)
2. the glovebox--same noise as so many others, seems to come and go
3. the latch for the drop top--also comes and goes

I would be happy if they could fix the door--I know, I know--its a convertible--everyone says that's why all the noises, but seriously....its a BMW convertible--it should be better.

Again...I miss my lexus. If it hadn't depreciated so rapidly, I'd go get another one.

My previous F30 had this similar issue. Brought it to the dealer for them to look into it. At first they thought the rattle was coming from the sun visor so they ordered a new one and replaced it. That didn't fix it. Returned it to the dealer but this time they asked me to reproduce the rattle so I took one of their service guy out for a drive so he can hear what kind of rattle it was. They concluded it was a lose wiring just right above the driver seat so they removed the headliner and reattached the wires so that they stay in place. Haven't heard a peep since then.

My M240 just started rattling around 20K miles a few months ago. Seems to be coming from the drivers side vent or the trim area. I can't narrow it down, but only happens in sport/sport+ when suspension is stiffer. Annoying, but not too bad. I'm hoping to narrow it down soon and get it buttoned up.

My 2018 M240i convertible just hit 1000 miles over the weekend, when the top is up so far it’s been rock solid.

When the top is down I do hear some rattles from the back seat area when I am on a rough road regardless of the driving dynamics selection. I don’t think there is much the deal can do for that type of situation unless other convertible owners have had other similar rattles while driving in top down mode I should be aware of that can be fixed by the dealer?

I find if the back seat has been folded down recently, sometimes it rattles/squeaks. Slamming it firmly in place can help.

Yep, that was it, thank you!

Although I try not to use the Bimmer for hauling anything, a past weekend visit to an outdoor art show and a spouse purchase required a rear seat fold down to extend what little trunk space we have.

It's the space between the vent and the trim...that whole thing is one piece and it's the source of all kinds of noises especially when it gets hot out and the plastic expands. I've had it looked at and it still makes noise ugh! Push on the side of the vent toward the passenger window next time it happens and you will notice the sound goes away.

Cool. I'll give it a shot. Wonder how to make it go away permanently if that's the cause.

Odd rattle Saturday, in my left ear. Pressed on things. Wife fiddled around, moved the ice scraper that was in the back footwell on my side. Stopped.

No rattles in my 2018 230i, she's as tight as a drum. 5,500 miles on the odometer.

Console and Steering Column shroud rattles and squeeks

Either from the headliner or possibly from the roof rack slot cover, only when going over bumps. I'm going to try to remove it and drive around and see if i still hear it.

Coming from a Subaru, this is something I'm used to. Was hoping BMW would be immune but I guess it's something that happens in every car.
Mine does, too. My 2012 335i is silent and solid inside, but this 2017 230i is inferior. The plastic is harder and thinner than my other car and really squeaks at certain frequencies from rougher road surfaces.

I sprayed Blaster Teflon Dry Lube and squeaks have settled down quite a bit in the steering column trim and eliminated squeaks from the console. We'll see how long it lasts, but I'm not impressed with the interior build quality of the F22.
