Least Used Gear
230i 6MT RWD Daily Driver
A car this light and powerful goes just fine in traffic except that there is a surplus of gears. My first car had three on the tree and it was fine. So I skip gears all the time, depending on conditions. 1,2,5,6 1,3,6 2,4,6 lots of options. The gear I use least is 4 |

agree about least time in 4th...and the torque curve feels flat enough that 6th could be taller for cruising....

Not here. My commute includes lots of time traveling between 45 and 55 mph and that's solid 4th gear territory for me. My least used gear would be 1st - in and out of it quite quickly. I generally find my rpm sweet spot between 2300 and 3000 while traveling at a constant speed - just enough to maintain enough boost to put my foot into if needed and not so much the motor is being taxed at all. Even though there is ample torque at 1500 rpm, I never run below 2000 as it feels like I'm lugging the engine then.

The one I use the least is reverse...
But I too used to skip 4th frequently, and still do in the GTI that replaced my M235i.
