I did not intend to be hostile, and I apologize if that's how my post sounded. It just seems very odd that you have been able to order a convertible when no else here appears to be able to. If your car really is produced in Week 49 of course that's great, but unfortunately I've learned over and over again not to trust car dealers.

OK - got it. I am supposed to go pick up by build sheet this week so maybe it will confirm. When I specked it out a few weeks there was no pricing so we just built what I wanted on their computer from BMW USA. They called this week and said it went through and gave me the number: As I remember it was Metallic paint, Prem package, cold weather, Driver ass, tech pack, Harmon. They said 56 + MSRP and I said fine. Perhaps my dealer is wrong but I trust them because they have no reason to make up a story. I gave the $1,000 last January and do not care when it arrives - I simply want the first one. It is my 7th BMW.

Nelson, they gave you an actual production number that you can go on BMW's website and see the production status? I think I figured out what is going on, you are getting preferential treatment because you have bought so many. I'm only on my third so I don't qualify :-) I was at the dealer closest to my house about an hour ago picking up our X5 from service, and the Sales Manager continues to say they don't have options and pricing info from BMWUSA yet, although they do expect it soon. They do expect the options and pricing to mirror the coupe (which seems to be consistent with what your dealer is saying), but they don't have official word yet, and therefore no way to place a customer order.

I have a production number - no Vin. If I go the web site it does not show up. However, if call the 800 number it says they have it but do not have the schedule yet. On the dealer web site it comes up as a "112" schedule. Doubt I have any priority but maybe the dealer does? All seems a bit odd.

I thought of that. But one of the dealers in my area was ranked #14 in the country (of 339 dealers) in the 2013 final COE (BMWUSA Center of Excellence) score, and another #21, although that may have nothing to do with dealer priority. And one of my best friends who lives in Florida checked with Vista BMW in Pompano Beach (the largest dealer by volume in the U.S. for the last 5 years) just yesterday and was told the same thing. They also confirmed what dealers here in NJ are saying about special ordering Coupes. There seems to be no more backlog on customer ordered Coupes. In almost all cases Coupes are being shipped from the factory within 2 or 3 weeks (and often shorter than that) after being ordered. I recall reading that Leipzig were going to start convertible production in November, but the initial cars produced were going to be for dealer test drives, and customer ordered cars would start being produced in January. Maybe somehow your dealer was able to get BMWUSA to divert one of the test drive cars to you because you are such a good customer? One would think that BMWUSA must have sanctioned this. Otherwise it would be easy for them to prevent a dealer from selling any units that were designated for test drives.

think i will jst wait a month or so and see what happens. Not sure I want a test drive car as sounds like it is proto type. Do not mind waiting for a real one.

My mentioning what I did was not for the purpose of scaring you away. I assume the prototypes have already been made, and those are what you seen thus far at the car show, for other other publicity uses, and for testing. I also assume BMW is prioritizing the dealer test drive cars first so the dealers have have something to demonstate to customers to help generate orders. But I suppose there's some risk to taking a car from very early in the model run before they work out any assembly line bugs, although BMW (with the exception of Mini) does not have that bad a history of producing first year models with teething problems. And other than the parts associated with the top itself, the factory has already been assembling these cars for a while now. If it were me, and I could get what I want now, I would jump on the chance assuming that I did not have to pay a huge premium to be one of first owners. I've experienced a couple of instances in the past where I've paid full MSRP for a brand new model, only to see it being substantially discounted six months later once there was plenty of supply. In my geographic area that's already apparently happened with the coupes.

Yes, but like bmw.com, no options, packages, and pricing info. I would think we will see someone post a U.S. Dealer Guide on the forum very soon, very possibly before a covertible can be configured on the U.S. website. I've noticed in the past that some of the forum members seem to be very wired into BMWUSA, one or more of the dealers, or some similar type of source to get this type of info.

Nelson, did you notice the available soft top colors are anthracite and black in Canada, but anthracite and mocha in the U.K.? Interesting how sometimes options and colors vary from country to country with BMW. What soft top colors were you able to choose from?

three -- basic black and then two with some kind of glitter! One was black and forget what the other was but I was not interested (may have been brown) - I like basic black.

However, you bring up another good point that I need to investigate! My build sheet does not have a line for the top type so need to ask why not. Odd because everything else is detailed down to the " aluminum hexagon trim with black high gloss highlight"
