I don't think my dealer even took me seriously until I signed all the order paperwork and pulled out the 3 grand required for deposit...

These wait times some of you are subjected to sound crazy! I ordered my M235 on a Saturday and had a production number on Monday. Ordered mid March, car completed manufacturing sometime around first week of April and delivered (To Alaska) late May.

$3K is a major league deposit on any order. They usually run in the $500 range. That may explain the alacrity on the part of your dealer.

Yeah mine was a minimum of $500 but you could go up to $1000 if you wanted, which I chose to do. Always chasing that cashback bonus with discover lol

The first time I ordered with my dealer, I was told it would be $2K since I was ordering a manual. I said I was totally fine with it. But then she put in the order and didn't ask for a deposit. The second time I ordered a car, same CA, and she didn't even ask for a deposit.

Just got off the phone with my dealer and got some pretty awful news. I had placed an order April 30 and left a deposit. I didn't receive a production number but was told the I would receive the car in 8 weeks. They just informed me today that they have no more allocations for 2018 and can't fulfill my order. I'm left with 2 options they could pull one from another dealer that is similar to my build but not exact or wait and order a 2019 (which the dealer said would arrive around September). Not sure which I'm going to do. I'm leaning towards just getting a similar one as I will have by next week and the changes from 2018 to 2019 will likely be minimal. I'm just pissed that they wouldn't tell me this when I placed the order.

Wow I'd be pissed. Sounds like they were banking on trading with another dealer and gave you the production number for that allocation and either fell through, or it was an order that they couldn't modify. Or they straight made up a BS production number. I don't think you can have a production number without having an allocation...

I'd check around nearby dealers and see if they have any allocations. That or push for heavy incentives/discounts on buying an existing car.

That was a typo on my end. I didn't receive a production. Still BS regardless though as they ensured I would have no problem getting the car. I think I'm going to push for heavy discount on an existing car.

Dealers are always happy to sell you a car, whether or not they have an allocation for an upcoming production slot (sometimes they can swap with another dealer for one.)

The fastest way to get a car is if your dealer has a production number already for the model you want and it is still at a status that allows for options to be changed.

They also need to make sure they change it from a dealer inventory car to a customer sold car, otherwise it will move to the back of the bus for shipping.

If you're stuck at the end of a model year run, you have to really think about the depreciation hit if you buy the previous model year. There should be a substantial discount to offset the loss you'll experience when it comes time to sell. But you may not be able to convince the dealer to give you that deal unless they have the old models on the lot and the new ones have started to come in.

If you can wait for the September MY 2019 car, I'd do that. If you have to have a car quickly, you might consider picking up a swapalease deal or getting this dealer to give you a very favorable deal on a short-term lease on something similar in their used-car fleet.

My dealer hasnt outright told me he cant get a car yet, but he has repeatedly told me he has never had such a hard time getting a car before. I will give him till this weekend before i ask for my deposit back.

Might just hold out for 19's and surprise my wife with a trip to munich.

That sucks vinny. See if you can have them find one that meets your specs on a dealer lot and push for a good discount. Or, take the 2019 order and push for a good discount (if you can wait). Otherwise, I would take my business elsewhere. That sounds pretty shady of that dealer.

I had to wait 4+ months for my order; I was initially told it would take 6 weeks. I was not happy (I wish they had just been honest about the lead time), but the car is worth the wait.

They couldn't find one in the region that I liked and I really didn't want to settle. I think I'm just going to wait for a 2019 at this point. Orders should hopefully open by July. I'll probably give this dealer another shot since they had given me a good deal on the car I had spec'd. If they can't do anything for me on the 2019, I'll gladly take my business somewhere else.
