Barebones 228i?
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Other-22...m=291557555441 My questions are: 1. Does it come with keyless entry or would I have to manually unlock doors every time? 2. Does the nav screen remain the same even though it won't have nav? To me the screens look larger in nav equipped cars. 3. Does it come with power seats just w/o memory or will have to use a lever to adjust the seats? 4. Will I regret buying a car without options? Don't really care about stuff like adaptive headlights, heated seats, moonroof, etc Thx |

1. Yes it has keyless entry and keyless start, all new BMWs do. You won't have to insert the physical key for anything. The only key related option is the Comfort Access, which is a way to unlock the car without pressing the key fob at all. 2. No unfortunately. You will get the square-ish shaped screen instead of the wide screen. 3. No unfortunately. The electric seats are not standard for 228i. 4. I think you won't regret it, since you are paying the least possible for a 228i. You will regret if you optioned 228i up to be similar price to a base m235i, that is exactly what happened to me. |

My 228,, Lighting package, Msport and HK Sound. My only regret is wasting my money on the HK sound system. No regrets at all about not getting all the Electronic gadgets

I had a long debate over getting power seats or not and ended up not getting them. No regrets at all, the manual seats work fine. They're actually better in sense because it is a lot quicker getting people in and out of the back seats by just pulling the lever and having it snap forward. However, day to day, I sit slightly differently in the seat and the downside is I'm not able to make the minute adjustments that the electric seats are able to provide...
As for the NAV screen, I personally think the square screen makes the car look cheap and decided to spend the extra $$ on the tech package. If you don't care too much for that then I wouldn't worry about getting the NAV package. |

I think the M-Sport and Visibility package is a must in my opinion!

Agree with this! In my build I think I mostly put aesthetics > performance. Hence why I didn't get THP (which I kinda regret) and settled for 228 rather than 235 (but that's more of a financial decision).

I couldn't begin to guess what you will or won't regret, but I've always felt that you get the best value by going light on the options. Especially the high margin tech options.

Regarding the LCD... yes, the bigger one looks cooler. Yes, the smaller one looks a little cheap. I will concede all that.
BUT the smaller screen is totally fine. I have the small one in my m235i and it's completely usable for everything, including the backup camera. Everyone has their own preferences and price points, but I essentially view the bigger LCD like I'd view a bigger iPad or notebook LCD. How much would I pay for a couple more inches of screen space on something like an iPad or laptop? A couple hundred bucks, maybe. Certainly not $2K. Of course, I'm a bit biased by the fact that I don't need or use navigation. If I did need it, I have it on my phone. |

It's seems that every time this subject comes up everyone mentions the sport packages and the radio system.
I didn't get either. I did get the lights, cold weather and Premium. I didn't need Nav or enhanced BT. My only complaints are non-Sport seats and the understeer/crap run-flats. Once I change the tires and wheels out and then dial out the understeer this will be an even better daily. Sways and end links are most of the answer. If you spend more time lapping a track than daily driving then I could see spending the extra for the Sporty bits otherwise the base car is nice. The options I got just make it a little nicer and more convenient.

I was originally going to just get msport + nav + rearview camera on my 228i but after shopping around I couldnt find one built that way.. The one I ended up getting had nearly option except the HK and Xenon headlights.
I dont regret that it costs close to the same as M235i since I specifically do not want the 6 cylinder. I wanted the car to have plenty of power, which the 228i has, but be able to get good MPG since it is my daily driver. Last edited by jtzako; 09-08-2015 at 06:27 PM.. |

I have regreted every previous ride I have purchased for not getting all the tech and premium goodies. This time I got those packages and glad I did. The tech on the 2er is good stuff. Your back will hate you without lumbar support. It makes a HUGE difference on long drives. If its just a car to have fun in I can see going bare. If its a daily driver why punish yourself over a few grand which over the life of a loan is not much money a month.

At least get the M-Sport and Lighting package. If you negotiate really well, you could get it with those two options close to that price on ebay.
That's what I did. Well, I also added the back up camera. |

Glad it worked for you...maybe not him...one of the few items I intentionally avoided as more negative than positive.

Tough call. If you are buying for performance reasons, get those options, such as M Sport. The seats are awesome. You can live without the tech gadgets but if you expect to own for a few years you will reach a point where most other cars have those features.
If you want more features without the cost get a Gti. |
