My 230i
This is my first post , I have a 2017 230i msport estoril blue Australian delivered.
Auto trans, Hex cloth seats, ferric grey 461 wheels , run flats (unfortunately ), adaptive dampers, sunroof (definitely not), harmon kardon, basic common spec. I mostly like the car , budget would not allow the m240i. This maybe a dumb Question! If I was to get regular tyres is my suspension much different to the m240i? The run flats make more noise than my engine, which is a bit quiet! Thanks Last edited by 000000; 09-24-2017 at 05:11 AM.. |

The adaptive M suspension in your 230 will be similar to M240, but I assume with a different calibration to suit to the lighter weight of the engine over the front axle.
As far as road noise goes, the MPSS aren't the quietest for sure, but certainly a far superior performance option.

Thanks for the reply. I guess If I want MPSS tyres I would need suspension adjustments (the dealer won't like that so not happening at the moment.) Have ordered a high flow panel air filter & hope this won't void my warranty.Have done so not because I think or want more power just hoping it might give the engine some character. I'm not a speed demon just like the drive & handling experience. This is the first new bmw I have ever had (ordered March 2017 delivered June 2017). The 230i is not my daily driver as I have A few other cars.

I don't think you need to adjust the suspension if you change to MPSS tyres. It's definitely worth the switch, as the 2er is pretty loud even without run flats.
Congrats on the new car btw! |

I sent a few questions in about my car, here are some of the Q & A's
Can I use non run flats in same oe size ? yes. Is my Suspension different to US market car using MPSS ? No Would I need adjustments to suspension If I fit non run flats? No. If I change to non run flats will this effect my warranty? They recommend BMW star marked tyres installed at an authorised BMW service centre. Non star marked tyres may have warranty implications. (I don't know if MPSS are star marked, so I'm thinking what they really mean is don't do it & at your own risk. ) Is there A performance exhaust to fit 230i ? No. I guess the 230i was designed to drive as it comes from the factory and they don't want you to change anything. |

Installing MPSS will not cause any warranty issues. These are offered on stock 230i in other countries. You will be fine as long as it is within spec/OEM sizing and installed by a professional tyre shop. Exhausts mods are usually fine if you limit yourself to axle-back, possibly cat-back as well. Talk to your BMW service rep to see how strict your dealer is with modifications. You also shouldn't have issues with insurance coverage with an axle-back. The exhaust modification will void your warranty to the extent that it has caused the issue (e.g. broken exhaust flap module or rattles in rear = the dealer will claim this was caused by aftermarket exhaust and any work will not be covered under warranty). Your Engine/transmission/electrical warranty should not be affected. Only full-m cars and a few performance models have an ADR approved exhaust (e.g. M2 or M240i). The M235i does not have an ADR approved exhaust and it is not approved for use in Australia. Also, the ADR approved exhausts are also only tested for that specific car, so you can't mix and match. TLDR: If you want full warranty/insurance coverage - adding MPSS should be fine. Adding an exhaust may affect your warranty. Last edited by koston; 10-22-2017 at 10:08 PM.. |
