JB4 Harness

Hi guys,

Just installed my Jb4 Stage 2 this weekend. I didn't have too much time to test it out but it definitely seems to pull a lot harder. Install went well I just had one question I could not find an answer on.

I installed the main harness and the Bluetooth adaptor no problem. The tune also came with a harness with two plugs on either side. It has blue and purple wires. And I cannot find out what it is anywhere online?

PS I have a 2016 m235i. Tune appears to be installed correctly. I have the app and it connects and I am currently in map 2. Also the code I had from intake and dp disappeared.

Not sure which harness goes with the blue/purple wires.

I think they might be for the EWG harness. If so it's not required, but highly recommended.

Sounds like the EWG wires. You won't be able to run anything beyond Map 2 without those.

Side note; is the app really $27.99 or am I looking at the wrong one?

Now is this the same thing as the flex fuel wires?

If I do install the ewg then I could run an e85 mix on map 5 correct?

Also any problems tips on putting that foam piece back one that's behind the engine cover.

That is the biggest pia. Im guessing it'll just have to be muscled around

What about Map 5? I'm running Map 5 without the EWG wires since I'm not running any fueling modifications and I haven't had any issues. Is this not recommended?

Things are a HUGE pain. Mine ripped in a couple areas when putting it back on. Be gentle and take your time.

You won't necessarily have issues per se but without the EWG wires you won't be able to boost high. I would stick to Map 1 without those wires, stay off map 5 for now.

You will need both wires in order to take advantage of an e85 mix. Then you can try map 5

I think you can run map 5 without the wires, no? Just won't be as beneficial because map 5 won't be able to boost as much.

I just left my foam piece out

Seems like it's for sound insulation more so than anything else.

So true I noticed our engines kinda make a ticking sound and freaked out for a second. Then I thought maybe there is that much sound insulation. I put the cover kinda back in place closed the hood and got behind the wheel. Sounded absolutely normal.

You could but there really wouldn't be a point in letting the car constantly adapt itself making every pull different from the next. Gains on Map 5 are not going to be much greater if at all than Map 1 without the ewg wires.

Dude, aren't the EWG wires just $35 or something? A bit of a pain to install though.

But totally worth it in my book.

Indeed. I still don't understand why BMS doesn't make this a standard part of the JB4. Include the damn thing and increase the price so that people get what they need
I've seen too many people missing out on real power because they never even knew about the critical necessity of EWG wires.

You think there is any power being missed out on between map 2 and map 5 running 93 pump only.

Seems like most dynos show that they are relatively close.

Hard to answer since map 5 adapts.

From what I remember in my old logs map 5 seems to initially use map 2 boost targets as it's base and then adapts from there.

I'll be going back to map 5 this week after I put on my IC and CP. Kind of want to get a new baseline for my map 6 tune.

EWG should definitely be included. When I ordered my Jb4 I forgot to add them to my order
