BMW M235i (F22) Seen in Valencia Orange. Gives Preview of Front End Styling + Render

The BMW M235i coupe continues testing on the Nurburgring, this time in Valencia Orange. While this prototype remains in the same level of camouflage as previously sighted prototypes, it does give us a glimpse at the M235i's front end design.

What the M235i reveals through the heavy front end camo are large air intake vents with fins like those featured on the M6 and spied on the upcoming M3/M4. You can also see the bottom of the bumper's splitters poking out below the camouflage. These seem to resemble those on the M135i hatchback. Taken together, what we may see once the camouflage is revealed is a blend of the M135i and M6 front bumper styling, as previewed in the render below (courtesy of Topspeed).

The rest of the prototype is as we've seen before - with the same M135i wheels, M Sport brakes, and split twin black exhaust pipes, along with a trunk spoiler lip.

The M235i and 228i both begin production this November. Unlike the M135i, the M235i will come to the US. There will be no 235i produced, as the M235i will take its place in the lineup. The M235i will feature the same powerplant and mechanicals as the acclaimed M135i hatchback.

We've also reposted below the first interior photos of the M235i and a recent track video.

really not liking these front 1/4 views of new bmws, the hood/bumper bulge is like the ISf (lots of unattractive bulging)

Liking the look with the M6 fins and huge air intakes.

And sounds good in video.

I wonder of the value of our 1 series will go down when the 2's come out....

Why would it? Equal performance and one is just hatchback while the other is coupe and convertible.

Seems to be riding a bit high in the render. Or has tiny wheels.

I'm excited about what the M235i is trying to accomplish so I'll hold judgement until reveal.

Looks way to soft to have an M badge on it, but I guess the unflattering M135 sets the stage for this cars looks.

He's talking about the E82 vs the new F22, and of course it will lower the resale curve of the E82, just as every new model does to the previous model. Having owned a 2008 E82, I'm looking forward to seeing the M235i and M2. Since I used to work in Germany, the old 1er has been around forever and just looks tired.

I also have seen quite a few F20's during recent travel and really think it looks better in person than static photos, the front end is not nearly as ugly as it appears in photos. I'm not saying it's great, or even as good as the E82 front end, but since the F22 is unlikely to have exactly the same front end, it's probably a bit of a non issue anyway.

Ok well now we need to convince BMW to give us an M LSD option to make this car appealing!

It's an M badge in the same sense that the E82 and E92 "is" cars were sportier than the "i" version, it's not trying to be the same thing as a full blown M product, the M2 will take that role. BMW's current naming convention is getting pretty silly though.

Good news, they will. Bad news, it will only be on the M2. I do agree, I have much less interest in the M235i over the M2, primarily because of the lack of LSD, which is still insulting. Our old E82 was great at roasting one tire.

Have we confirmed the engine for the M2? That's the most delicious piece of this puzzle! If it turns out to be a lit smaller, I would probably take a 235i w/ aftermarket LSD over the M2.

Mmm looks OK. I'd prefer a front end similar to the F30's or a facelift e46 coupe

Nothing says cool quite like a car that hasn't been made in seven years.

We don't know exact details on the M3/M4 engine, much less any actual facts about the M2 aside from strong hints that there will indeed be an M2, still no official BMW confirmation of that though.

I just don't see an I4T holding a candle to the N54 or N55 engines. I am very sure that BMW will surprise me. I also really hope that it will be a highly tunable engine!

Well I think it's safe to say the M3/M4 will be highly tunable. I think there's a chance that the M2 may end up with something closer to the A45 motor that doesn't have as much opportunity for additional boost though. I just hope there's a sizable weight advantage of the M2 over the M235i and E82 135i, if they accomplish that, I'd drive it with an S14.

The quality would go down as usual. I would hang on to the present 1 series until i see the 235 in person. The present 3 series quality sucks compared to the E90.

This is pretty much the opposite of my experience and just about every thing I've read. The interior quality of the F30 is much improved over the E9x and E8x. There are still cheap spots and materials, but it's a BMW, so that's sort of expected. I don't like the way the F30 is sized or how dependent it seems to be on getting the option right, but build and material quality not something I'd fault it for.

We chose an E84 over the F30 because of the way each drove, but I couldn't say with a straight face that the interior of the E84 is even close to the F30. Our E82 had the steering wheel switch surrounds replaced, the entire dash, the ECU, the starter and a few other minor trim parts under warranty. I wouldn't call that stellar quality.

Looks good. So long as it has useful cup holders, it'll be just fine.
