Roof rack? OEM or Third Party?

I'm just about to order an m235i Alpine White and am wondering what the car looks like with the OEM or third party racks from Yakima or Thule. I'm an avid cyclist, so a roof rack is a necessity, and I want a rack that looks sharp on the car. Does anyone have the OEM rack or an aftermarket rack installed on their car? If you went Thule or Yakima did you have any trouble mounting the rack? If anyone has pics of their rack I would appreciate it! Thanks!!!

I have a BMW 2 series rack. It works great for my wife's and my bikes. We are both avid cyclists and the rack has carried our bikes to several bike tours this year.

This is my first BMW. One of the things I surprisingly like most about it is how quiet the cabin is at highway speeds. Do you feel like the rack adds a lot of wind noise even without bikes on? If its going to add a. Lot of noise I'll just throw my bikes in my wife's wagon. She can't drive stick and sorta refuses to learn so it leaves her without a car when I take hers..that's the only prob.

Is the roof rack removable or is it a permanent installation?

Roof racks are removable, but not terribly easy. You have to be careful when installing and removing not to ding up anything.

I'm hoping by spring they release a hitch receiver for the 2 series. The 1 bolt on & off for the hitch is one of my favorite thing about my F30.

Actually the rack is easy to take on and off our BMW. It takes less than five minutes to install. There are four louvered panels on the roof that you open exposing four bolt holes. The rack bolts right in.

Thanks for the great responses! I'm actually at the dealer now trying to place an order, but they are giving me the runaround about fees. Apparently the concept of price matching is not understood.

Got a price quote from the dealer for the rack. The parts department said if I ordered the rack when I come back to pay for the car prior to ED they'll give me 25% off, which would make the price of the rack $200. I haven't priced out the part before, so not sure if this is a good/bad deal. That being said, the cost of a Yakima rack with the Q-towers, crossbars, and Q-clips would be more than $200.

What’s the gap like between the roof and the bottom of the rack base/footing? Installed what I believe to be a BMW rack for for 2015 228i (from BMW of SF via Amazon) and was thrown off by the noticeable gap after fitting. Pics appreciated!

Hit up Brian Keller at sun motors BMW, roof rack for my wife’s X1 and the quote for my m2 definitely lower than anything you find online.

How's everyone's wind noise? I've installed the OEM roof rack without any bike racks yet and the noise starts at 30mph and is unacceptable at 50. My previous car rx8 had a yakima rack with fairing with no wind noise at all.

There's no wind noise, and if you ask nicely when you purchase the car, you'll get it for free.

maybe the air is thinner at your elevation..

what's your setup? with or without racks? fairing? do you have photos of the install? the rack has the 3 plastic pieces on the underside of crossbars and the rubber strip on the top side installed. the rubber strip is the smooth one.. i've got the notched version coming soon. rhino racks calls it a vortex generating strip..

finally, do you have sunroof? i do have one and it is noticeably louder when i pull back the shade.
