I will make my decision on whether to dump my 235 and go for the M2 when the engine specs are released. Ive put a decent amount of money into my car in tune, cai, and exhaust and I'm pushing 382/455 (flywheel). If the M2 comes out and its tunable to the numbers the M3/4 are getting I will jump right on it. Otherwise I keep my car and continue building it.

It will be interesting to see how much headroom is left for a tune on the 2. |

I never even considered the M235i. I think once you own an M car you will not want to go back to a non M car. The driving dynamics are very different and more raw feeling than your standard BMW.
I have a $1k deposit down at my dealer for one. M4 is just too big for me. M2 seems like a perfect size! Like a e46 again.

I drove the M3/4/5 and the X5M this past week at Monticello Motorsports (autocrossed and did laps with m6) and none are close to my M235i Dinan Stage 2. Sorry M car or no M car... my car drove hands down much better. That being said I cant wait for the M2... I could only imaging how much better the m2 will be with the type of mods I made.

Yes.
Wait what? this is a discussion thread? :-) I'm not even reading it yet, but to me? Yes, m235 > m2... I love a real daily driver that has both the smoothness and the punch. I'll always be jealous of any M owner for owning an M. But in my situation owning one... isn't smart given where I live, where I drive, etc. M235 > M2 QED

We've heard folks who've gone from e46 & e90/92 M3s to the M235 and have been happy with it. The views of folks who have owned M cars and the M235i and have been satisfied with the latter would seem to count for something, IMO. |

I gave up my number one position when I heard that it was just going to be a tuned version of the 235 engine..Considering that its tuned I doubt there will be much headroom for Dinan/AWE/Other Tuners to safely make the numbers....
Yeah Im giving up looks, a performance car but I learned that I rarely ever use a car to its full potential and the fear of me trashing a 60k car is enough to keep me away from the track This being said, Honestly how much better can the 235i Get?!? During my ED i had permagrin and I just couldnt imagine it getting even better. I extensively drove an M4/M3 before I made my decision to go with the 235i and honestly I think the 235 is just the perfect car. Sadly the M3/4 just didnt capture me the way the 235 did during my countless hours of driving.... the M2 is going to be a beast but honestly im not convinced its going to be worth the 12-15k premium over the 235i! as far as a future "m"240 I have NO DOUBT bmw will be neutering the M235i to be just a 240 to keep from sabotaging sales from the M2...(honestly if they dont they should drop the M nomenclature and name it a 240ix like the 235 should have been, but I digress)

I've owned both previous generation M3's and loved em dearly...
Starting the S65 up at cold start was like having sex. The F8x just didnt tickle my fancy - albeit its a beast. I personally don't think its as attractive as its predecessors either. Very subjective I know. The M235i is fast as f uck and while I'll consider (strongly) the M2 as my next ride, the M235 meets 98% of my needs and is lighter on the wallet too. If you need a track car that's street ready? Gotta go M2. Need a very fast and fun street car you can track? M235i. Nice choices to have huh?

M2 > M235i but based on the info available I just don't see it worth me trading up. A detuned S55, larger turbo, more color options, upgraded interior would have sealed the deal for me.... At that 60k price point. m235i is still the best pound for pound 50k car you can get IMO. Last edited by G-Mann; 08-07-2015 at 05:16 PM.. |

Agreed. The fact that the M2 isn't getting a new engine was a major bummer for me. Throw a couple grand at an M235 and you can definitely be faster than a stock M2 at a much lower cost. My fbo 235 with ecu tune does 0-60 in 3.9s on a hot summer night, my buddies stock M4 only does 4.1s. For me personally the xdrive is a huge plus as well considering how bad the winters are here. |

It's very interesting. Between this and the M2 discussion forum, the M2 is getting bashed left and right for various reasons. The poor thing hasn't even be revealed yet.
I am hopeful that the M version of the 235 will be truly something special. Perhaps one of the best BMWs of all time. |

Keeping my 235i for a few years until the last year of the m2 and then will order one and trade it in. 235 is mostly a track toy with 10k in mods, m2 prob will be slower, but with 15-20 track days a year the car gets worn out fast.

I wasn't in the market when the 1M debuted. Was there a similar discussion about the 135is being very similar (with tune...) to the upcoming 1M prior to release?
While I would have liked to seen a bespoke engine in the 2, I would be fine if it has a special sound. That metallic wail of the S54 or the F1 scream of the S65 just makes me smile. Although, while the S55 is special, it just doesn't excite like the others. |

Agreed, the sound of that S65 is still in the back of my mind. But I am starting to agree that the 235 will hit 98% of my needs. It would be prudent to just wait until November for more M2 info, but just requested a quote for a 235 - so we will see? |
