I'm intruiged

So, I'm a long time BMW owner and have been growing the BMW size over time. E46, F10, X5 etc, and I still miss my e46.

I am in my 40s and was thinking someday a sports car (likely a Porsche) would be nice, and I keep reading that the 240 is the bomb. The more I read about it, I'm thinking I'd love to own one for fun. Am I crazy? Whats the average age of the 2 series owner?

This is a little outdated but still might be fairly accurate save for the fact that people who answered that poll might be in a new age bracket now

http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=971160

On that note I am 33 with a m235i and it seemed like a perfect car for the stage of life I am in with no kids. No regrets.

I don't know any averages but I'm 77 and traded my 135is for the M240i xDrive.

I am getting mine in about 2 weeks or so (I hope!) and I am 26. Had no college loans or really any loans of any kind so I decided to destroy that track record with a new car haha

I'm 56. I am guessing the sweet spot is 40-60, but I think you'll find it runs the gamut from early twenties (no way I could have afforded a BMW at that age) to the seventies and possibly beyond. I think you'll find the 240 to be a great blend of "sports car", "luxury car" and "fun and functional daily driver and is the best car fitting the description available under $60K today.

If you loved your E46, the 2 series will feel like home. I am 57, and have had 4 E46s--including an M3 convertible. The M240i convertible I have now feels like a natural progression from it and far more livable.

I have a spouse (with a Boxster S) and an 11 year old, and the 2 fits our lives just fine. It's the fun car we can take when we all go somewhere. (We have an X5 for bad weather and long road trips with the dog.)

The 240 feels raw when you want it to and civilized when you don't want to be thrashed around.

It's really a perfect car. And far easier to get in and out of than the low-slung Boxster. Of course it's not as crazy fun to drive as the Porsche, but it's a lot more practical.

go for it! who gives sh!t what anyone else thinks about you driving a 240!

at 48 yrs old, i was pretty much in the exact situation as you. i just bought a CPO 228i for my daily driver after test driving a 328d and a 428i. the car is a blast to drive. life's too short to drive a boring car...and it took me three years to realize that while driving 100 miles roundtrip every-effing-day in a subaru crosstrek.

^^^^This. Couldn't have said it better myself. If you really care who else drives one, you should be shopping for a Mercedes. And if you like drinking dealership coffee while they prepare an expensive repair estimate, then go P-car (but I hear it is REALLY nice coffee) .

I'mm 68 and love cars, always have. Must say I am impressed with my M235i X-drive convertible. I originally bought it because my wife disliked my A5 but soon learned to enjoy it. Especially great with the top down.
You must remember not to equate calendar years with "age." Some of us may have been around for a while but far from "old."

34. I've owned mine for 2 years already and love it! This is my first BMW but I drove my friends e46 m3 and it feels similar, but better in almost every regard. If that makes sense.

For the price, I don't think there is much that can compete in terms of fun/daily use and utility. It has its compromises but I feel that it executes well on the points that really matter.

I'm closing in on 44. I'm married and have a 13 y/o and 9 y/o. This is my primary car and I love it. It's plenty big enough and comfortable to cart the family around on sub 1 hour trips. The kids ALWAYS prefer to ride in Dad's cool car.

This is my first German car. It fit the bill for what I wanted: Small, tried and true reliable (for a German car) N55 motor, robust 6MT, RWD, option to delete the moonroof, elegant and aggressive styling. I've had the car for nearly 2 years. It's been perfect and reliable. This car and the M2 are the only BMWs I'd ever consider. Everything else is either too big or overly complex with frightening out of warranty costs. In the spring I'll add and LSD and Dinan Stage 2 tune. That will make it perfect. I will then most likely add a low option 6MT 2014-2016 Cayman S to the stable in the next few years as well or a Mazda RF and add a supercharger to it.

I’m 20 now, I got it as a reward for doing well at Law School from my parents when I was 18/19 (during my birthday). It’s a very practical DD as well as a good fun car.

Terrestrial age = 47

Mental age = late 50s

Emotional age = late 30s

Libidinous age = early 30s

Creative age = perpetually early 20s

Age is just a number. The important thing is: If it ticks your boxes, do it.

Some of us aren't blessed with being born into rich families and/or being awarded $50K cars as gifts for doing well in school It's taken many of us decades of working to comfortably afford a car like this. To the affluent, it's just a low end, "cheap" entry level BMW. To others of us, it's quite a step up compared to what we've had in the past. It's hard for some of us rationalize purchasing a car this expensive when you've been sticking to a solid financial plan for decades. It makes no financial sense when you could just a buy a reliable $10K used car. Sure, "you only live once" and you can always make more money, but most that think that way will be working until the day they die, have no savings, and have little to show for their effort.

A1: Psychologists seem to agree that one of the surest signs that you're insane is an absolute, crystalline certainty that you are completely sane - and, therefore since you question your sanity, it would suggest that you are NOT crazy.
A2: Don't know about average age of 2er owners (as one would need a larger sample for the "law of large numbers" to kick in), but the median age here is 48.5 yrs ((20 + 77) / 2).

Are you more concerned with physical age or emotional age? Lots of young-at-heart folks in here....my body, however, is 63.

You'll see a big spread in ages - while it may be a stretch $ wise in your 20s and a low cost item in your 60s - it's a great car and there's real value there at $50k. And a lot of folks who could easily spend more don't. The car fills a lot of wants and needs and in many cases you'd need to spend a lot more to find something better - again depending on what you are looking for in a vehicle.

So if you're 20s and have one car for $50k this does that well. 60s with $50k to spend on a toy that's not a DD but at the same time not completely impractical, this does that well too.
