Bmw track app review

Wrote a longer tread and then it crashed so shorter version.

M235i with pro nav.
Bmw apps came as standard
iphone connected via normal charging cable.
Track app loaded via connected drive.

Press record on idrive.
Logs lots of date, including:

Throttle %
Brake %
G force
Steering angle
Speed
GPS position

App then overlays details on top of map and let's you "play" through your lap.
If you set a start position (and actually drive in a loop) it will record each "lap" seperately and give you comparative lap times etc.

Few screen shots from a quick play:

All in all great free app and will be perfect for track days

That looks really cool ! It could really help you on a real track, or a "course" that you take all the time.

Very nice.

Loving the steering wheel too by the way...

That app is so freaking cool. I didn't know about it until after I bought my car. Such a fantastic surprise when I found out about it 😄

Do we need a sub forum to share files? Or is that a bad idea?

It is one of the reasons for me to pick the M235i as the next car: cheap (can you say free) telemetry for the track!

Interesting - Toyota just released an even more comprehensive data logging tool for the FR-S/GT86, but you need to download the data to Gran Tourismo 6 on a PS3 - then you can run your real life lap virtually and see a full set of MOTEC-like data. Of course at present this logging only works when driving a few tracks in Japan...

Does anyone know if this app uses the phone's GPS or the car's GPS? If the car, what is the update frequency? I understand from CMS laptimer pro app that iPhone frequency is 1 Hz and for real track time accuracy, you need 5 Hz. Thanks in advance!

The GPS is just for logging the map part though, the car determines speed etc through the car Ecu so doesn't massively matter how accurate the GPS is
