Thanks for sharing.

I've been on pilot super sports almost since they came out. My ZHP is no M235i, or M3, or M5/M6, but damn I love those tires. They have saved my @$$ more than once. Friends call me a "tire snob" but I don't care, tires are SO important!

totally agree about the tires..that are on the vehicle....minus no runflat
these more expensive..wear out faster...get more flats..and don't hug that street like the M that are standard on this car.... and after my three year lease is up...I am going to buy the M2..which will be out there for sure...God I luv BMW...hope the M2 can do
0-6 in 3.9..so I can take out those Stingrays...buy the way the Chevy dealers are asking 10 thousand over sticker for the Stingrays..they can keep it in my humble opinion

How did you disable them? I'm guessing the dealer can code it away. How much do they charge if that's the solution? Thanks.

Don't they only work if the headlight selection level is all the way "on", aka all the way to the right?

I thought they didn't work if the lights were in the "auto" (all the way to the left) or with the parking lights on...

Might be wrong about that, but it is what I seem to remember.

The thing I am most interested to see is what 19' wheels will fit on this car, with the stock offsets taken into account. It would be nice to get some wider tires on the car, especially in the back.

It might be comparable to the e90/e92 M3 but that's a big maybe.

This car is replacing the 135is. So this may be more comparable to the 1M, if anything.

Buy this car if you're looking for an almost M car with a good amount of performance and can't afford a full blown M car. That's how I'm interpreting it as...
People who purchase/lease this vehicle over an M3/4 does not mean they can't afford a "full blown" M Car. People have different priorities. There are plenty of people in M cars who can't really afford them as well.
Priorities? Care to explain why someone who can afford an M3/M4 decides to go with the M235i?

Not trying to bash the M235i because I have one on order. I know it's going to be a fantastic car, but if I could afford an M3, I would be all over it. Not only does it have more leg room but it's going to have a substantial performance advantage over the M235i, from what I can see so far.

I just don't see the logic in your statement, sorry
I can only speak for myself, but although I could have bought an M6 or a Porsche or something similarly bonkers, I opted for a used 328i since I only commute about 30 miles/day in and around NYC. For me, a bigger or faster car would have been overkill. Even the 328i is probably more than I need - there are days when, because of traffic, I barely get over 50mph. Saving that dough for other things made far more sense, and I can see the same case for a lot of folks considering the M235 over a proper M.

Great review. Nice to see one of us out there giving some real world feedback

I do have a question about the automatic in manual mode: If you are in manual/paddle shift mode in 2nd (any gear really) at 1500 RPM and floor the throttle does it automatically down shift or will it pull through the RPM's?? In other words is it TRUELY manual mode??

I ask because a friends 335i Msport automatic which shifts great, would always down shift even in manual mode. I have a stick shift and sometimes just don't want to down shift so i let the car pull through the low RPM's till it builds up.

I am trying to decide to go automatic or stay stick shift.
Thanks

The 8sp auto in my M135i didn't change down.

You can even fit M Performance 20's on an M135i.

I think it won't change gears. The 3 series with the exact same transmission won't. Sometimes I'll space that I'm in manual mode until I bounce off the rev limiter.

Its not the up shift it was down shifting on its own when in manual/paddle mode. Maybe he wasn't in the right mode for it to be fully manual (you tell it and it does it).

As long as you are in the sport + (I think Sport as well) the gears won't change unless you specifically tell it to. The only instance that I could remember where it will change on it's own is if you cruise 8th gear and come to a stop without changing gears. It will reset to first gear or whatever gear it highest without stalling.

Ok, he was in sport + mode. But when he floored the gas it down shifted. I don't think it up shifted on its own. But it definitely down shifted as we tried multiple times.

On the m135i full manual mode is full manual. It will bog down and bounce off the rev line, won't shift up or down without you telling it to

This would be nice if it holds true on the M235i. This may be my first ever automatic.

If I remember correctly, it's as described above. if you're in manual mode in sport or sport+ you have-full control on both up shifts and down shifts. it will bounce off the rev limiter so you don't get automatic up shifts (that caught me by surprise) and also it doesn't automatically downshift even though you're pushing the throttle all the way down and you can actually feel the little button below the throttle pedal being depressed.

His car is a 2014 maybe they changed the way it works or its just only true manual mode in the M series cars. Well hopefully I can test drive one soon enough.
thanks for all the replies
