I know you and I will never agree on leasing and I don't want to hijack this thread but it's not about someone else having "more" (I couldn't care less about this and others will always have more unless you're Warren Buffett or Bill Gates) nor is it about being pleased with having enough. It about experiencing the latest technology, trying new things and having peace of mind because your car is always covered. Unlike people who buy, I never check for "known problems" or long term reliability because those things don't matter to me. In three years, if the 230 or 240 look interesting to me, I might decide to drive one for a few years. It's about only going around once in life.

I've owned BMW's since 1995 so I'm used to the model number on engines going in every direction but never making any sense.
I don't recall anyone claiming the 240 would have more HP, let alone 330 HP. The 240 nomenclature is more likely tied to displacement. It's become more fuzzy with turbos in the mix though. I doubt the new 240 will actually have more HP than the current M235i.

That's OK...different points of view keep this interesting. I understand your motivation about having the latest, although I didn't think of a moderate boost in engine output in the category of new technology. I had the same thoughts about peace of mind, but addressed that by extending the BMW warranty to 7 years/70k miles (which works for my usage). I guess two things push me the other way....1) I've "bonded" to some great cars of the past and suspect this could happen again. I've leased cars and always thought of them as so temporary, they never really mattered that much to me. 2) I prefer the equity position to spending to "rent", as the offsetting idea of newness, per se, doesn't provide enough appeal to me to make it worthwhile. Pros and cons to both approaches...

Time is money.

I do my research first.

I do not take a bath over some car.

Also, not to be rude, but this is pretty obvious. I mean, the model changes have happened like this all the way since the E36. Models consistently get more standard features, have model designation changes, motor changes, model changes, pretty much without fail. If this is a major concern for somebody, you really need to wait a couple years after the release of a model that interests you. Same with phones, computers, TVs, pretty much everything.

I think alot of comments/replies here are not reading my op entirely. I do understand the mid-cycle changes and facelifts but to have a car made for only one year is not common

IE...the e90 325 was out for only one year (maybe it was 1.5 yr?) and they updated the engine & name destination, this m235/m240 seems to be the same move from BMW. You guys telling me they do this every year???

We get it but didn't you get the vehicle you wanted, at the time? There's always bigger and better, this time it just appears it might be sooner than you anticipated. It shouldn't diminish what you have in any way, your current car didn't lose anything when the new models come out. Different perspectives I suppose. Enjoy your ride and don't worry about what else is out there until it's time to replace yours
