IND cosmetic package: black grilles, painted front and rear reflectors, and black mirror caps for 280 bucks. Can't go wrong.

I wish. The mirror caps add $148.50 to the package.

Still not a horrible deal, but not as good as it seems at first.

I can understand the painted front reflectors, but as for the rear, don't you want your car to be as visible as possible at night? If your car is parked, for example, the rear reflectors are an early warning to someone that there's a car there. The rear reflectors feel like a safety issue to me. I'm all for appearance mods and personalization but I tend to draw the line at things that may make the car less safe and visible. Maybe I'm just being overly cautious.

Curses! The image is so deceptive. Still a better love story than twilight. Better deal than getbmwparts.com regardless.

I don't think you're being overly cautious. When I found out there was such a mod I took pause. The rear reflectors should stay stock (form follows function) and I'm keeping mine so. I have half a mind to make the front reflectors smoked clears (just hate amber) but keep them as reflectors for the same reason, as opposed to painted functionless body panels. Still, the rears come with the package and can be used for a multitude of other things, such as Spock ears for a future Halloween costume.

Since this is an opinion thread, here's my take on the official 2 series accessories:

Like:

Black Kidney Grills
Front Splitter
Side Skirt Films
Rocker Panel Blades
Rear Diffuser
Performance Steering Wheel
Stainless Pedals
Stainless Footrest (for 228)
Performance Exhaust
Limited Slip

Don't like (but don't consider tacky):

Carbon Mirrors, Spoiler, Interior Bits and Trim, Exhaust Finisher

Tacky:

Side Stripes

I don't think either one of you are being overly cautious. Actually, I also extend the same thinking to the front reflectors. In my prior career, I was closer to the source, but I remember how much research was conducted before NHTSA, with GAO approval of cost:benefit, enacted the rule to mandate such reflectors. There was a noticeable reduction in night-time side impacts, as the front of the vehicle entering the headlamp spread of the oncoming perpendicular car had its reflectors lit up and generated an improved driver response. If I can give one person with deteriorating/compromised vision a better chance to see and not hit me at night, well worth living with the narrow and well-integrated reflector strips.

I love CF mirrors and have only seen about 4 or 5 others ...ever. CF isnt really "played out" (that expression is though). If it is someone should tell Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo, Bentley Pagani and every race team in Indy and F1.
I do really dislike/hate those little pretentious "M" badges and the M Performance badges are worse.
My E92 had CF dash, console, shifter etc and it was awesome. Beats all the standard aluminum that sin EVERY car.

I agree with you 100%. I really don't get the dark tail lenses etc. Looks really tacky IMO and makes your car less visible and probably open to legal problems in the event of an accident. All in the name of vanity.

I'm not a big fan of the upper stripe but I think the lower, rocker panel stripe works well with the car's lines and looks good.

Yep, same here. I ordered the lower rocker panel decal with my car. Also ordered the kidney grills. Will be buying the pedals before the car is delivered for the first mod.

IMO, any aftermarket aero part that does nothing for performance, especially the whisker like carbon fiber canards, are tacky.

Its personal preference, if you don't like them don't install them. I don't like to criticize other peoples choices regardless of my desire for a completely stock looking clean vehicle...

The rear diffuser and front splitter provide no benefit for like 99.9% of those who have them either.

Does someone make clear front reflectors available? I'd be in to that, much better than orange, but still providing some function, like you said.

Yeah, I'm down with this. The reflectors don't bug me at all. Never really thought about them detracting from the looks of the car. Same with my Kawasaki - it's almost 100% on the forums that riders hate the orange reflectors on the front forks - while I don't even notice them.
