I'm in Amsterdam and most of the BMWs have no badges...

So I'm on a vacation with my brother, we did a few days in Amsterdam, a few days in Brussels, and now I'm back in Amsterdam and flying home to the states on Friday. I have noticed a TON of 1 series and hatches. But I've also noticed that nearly every BMW has no badges. They all obviously have the roundels, but no models or anything.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is this common in Europe?

Haha. Oddly enough - I've never heard it referred to as the "Euro look." But, that definitely makes sense. I'm always turning my neck to catch the model and disappointed. I'm disappointed in 1) the lack of badge and 2) my lack of ability to recognize the model without the badge. :

Yes, very common to de-badge the car in Europe, has been that way for quite some time.

Reason is that a lot have a small engine and don't want people to notice this. A bit stupid, but very common over here.

And even the other way around happens a lot : having a big engine and removing the badge, since it 'creates' jealousy ...

I had euro delivery 128 that the owner said they asked if he wanted badges when he bought it.

Because everyone in the Netherlands drives a 114i, 116i or 118i at best :P

Then again, my M235i only has an M badge, no 235i either. I don't really care either way.

Depends on the country, it's very rare in UK. You probably shouldn't bundle so many different countries as "Europe"

Typical. The Netherlands has a terrible car scene, so all you see are the smallest petrol engines are diesels. So what do you do? You rip the badge off. Same in Belgium. And if you have a big engine, you should be ashamed because HOW DARE YOU THROW THAT IN MY FACE so you take the badge of as not to offend someone who cannot afford a large engine...

Same thing here in Germany. Even when its the top of the line model they opt for badge delete.

Because a majority of Europeans are not ostentatious enough to tell everyone around them what kind of car they drive, unlike the US, where people will even put on extra badges. It is also a no charge option to have the car delivered with or without badges.

Same thing goes for bumper stickers. Why must people in the US yell everything about themselves on their back bumper?

Thanks for the responses. It's interesting.

I also saw a white R8 wedged in a tiny parking spot on the canal in between two cars with a bicycle leaning against it and covered in dirt.

Also, apologies - didn't mean to generalize all of Europe. But Amsterdam and Brussels are beautiful! Highly recommended for anyone in the States to visit. Just don't fly American Airlines direct to Amsterdam - that 757 sucks hard. I'm a "normal" sized guy...I guess? But those goddamn seats are awful. 8hrs of numb ass syndrome.

If you can't do business class, fly a 767. the seating is 2, 3 ,2. Much more comfortable for a long flight or an A330 seating is 2,4, 2. You want the outside rows of 2.
