As would I, if this comes true my m235i goes in immediately for a m235i GC. (Assuming it isn't based on the blasphemous FWD based 1 series.) Even better if they were to go M2 GC.

Make it an M2 touring and I'd buy the entire allocation just so nobody else but me could have one.

Who cares at least people wouldn't be buying a CLA or A3. My sister is in the market for this exact car. And if it was on the lots right now I guarantee she would have bought one. and I would be next in line

Nope. The F20 platform is 5 years old and due for replacement soon.

From the original report:
Quote:
Since a 2-Series Gran Coupe will be built on a platform shared with the 3, 5 and 7 Series - each model featuring a different wheelbase and track width
^^ That's describing the 35UP platform, i.e. a Gxx chassis.

Great post! Thanks for sharing. I had no idea they were so similarly matched. It really didn't look like it

Honestly the 320i is for people who don't really care about BMW other than name. I think the 2GC though would appeal to us enthusiasts and that is a definite market. Plus they could sell some stripped out models for, like they said, lower end luxury leases.

I see a business case for both even if they overlap, as others have said.
Actually you've got it wrong. it's the other way around. don't Disparage 320 buyers..

the 320 *exists* only because BMW is all about keeping the crown for the midsize sport(y) sedan market in sales (3/4 vs C class vs Audi )

They never thought of a 2 series gran coupe because they so focused on, and thought they might lose some 3/4 sales.
When the competition got close last year.. they hurried up a 320 to market to boost sales with some cheap lease prices.

Don't blame buyers ... they just were looking for a compact sedan from BMW that ain't 50K.

That car should have been on the lot for those buyers.. .... in the form of a 1 series sedan.. or 2 series gran coupe...

The buyers that didn't bite on the 320, or... more importantly.. the part that BMW forgot.. BUYERS THAT WANT A COMPACT SEDAN, are now driving CLAs and Audi models that competitors brought out by reintroducing the compact sedan segment that BMW dominated with the E30, E36 and E46.
Yes you are correct. The bean counters got the best of BMW's attempt at a reasonably priced compact sedan. Which resulted in a 320i

All of the e36 die hards now have something to migrate to. My m3/4 is still pretty strong since I have been preserving it and updating it, but this would start me shopping.

Doesn't make sense. So the 2er Gran Coupe would use a different chassis (CLAR) than the 2er coupe (FWD)? I don't buy it.

Agreed. But I'd consider keeping the E36 as well. They are going up in value and I'd love to own both.

I'm getting way too excited about this 2GC and chances are it might not even make it too production

Not sure why people are hating on the model expansion.

For a LOT of us, the 3 series is too big a car.

I have a 3, and wanted a 4 next. Saw the 2 and am now in love.

People like my GF, or anyone with the desire for a small car with 4 doors would fall head over heels in love with a 2 GC.

Right price, right features..... everyone can love it.

Let the 3 series become the smaller 5 BMW (and China) wants it to become..... we will still have this.
