FYI the M240i uses 8th gear in sport, but not sport +.

I was quite pleased to discover this as that was something that bugged me on my prior M235i.

Just drive with it in M and you can get it into (almost) any gear you want in any driving mode.

Yes, I know the 6 speed manual gives you that freedom as well.

It seems apparent that the solution is to simply use the mode switch. I switch between Sport and Comfort as needed - easy enough. No callus on my finger tip yet.
