Do people often export their cars back to the states? I've been seeing a LOT of American and other non-German cars with German plates under the California tag. Just very weird to see a Cadillac, Scion xB, etc. running around with German plates. I mean... OK, but it's still weird. One thing to put a fake German plate on a German car, but a German plate on a Cadillac? Like what, you plan to send it back to Germany soon?

This is the first time I've had a new car actually appreciate in value!

Today I saw over a dozen 2er's in the wild on the road over a 15 minute period of time.
OK, it was two caravans on new 2's driving along Port Hueneme Blvd. going from the port to the BMW VPC in Port Hueneme CA. It was a mix of coupes and convertibles. They were moving pretty fast, but I got this brief video. I also got to see several i8's traveling the same route to the VPC |

Well, never got a chance to see it up close... until this morning, early. I was on my way to the local RC field and had just turned the corner from our house when I spotted a Mineral Grey BMW in my mirror. I drove a hair slower than normal and he came up behind me, then along side at the first traffic light. Sure enough, it was a 2-series, Mineral Grey 228i! We exchanged thumbs up, smiles, and away we went! Unfortunately, he was on his way to work at the university (I spotted his parking permit dangling from the mirror) I just retired from, and I was on my way to fly RC models. Heh!

Have to relate this quick story. I just got back from Ireland for about 10 days, and the whole time I was there I was on the lookout for 2ers, of all flavors. Granted, it's not the best comparison, as Ireland's economy is not the best, so in general not a whole lot of brand new cars, but still a lot of Bimmers. Although I saw my fair share of BMW 1s, 3s and 5s (and one or two 4 series), I did not see even one 2 series, including 4-door Euro versions, the whole time I was there. Saw lots of other cars, I wish we got in the States but that's a wholly different story. A LOT of diesels though, which is completely understandable since their diesels practically doubles the mpg of petrols.

I have only seen two on the road in my area.
The weird thing is, I called all 4 dealers near me when I was getting ready to order and only one of them had a 2-series in stock for me to look at. They told me they get sold within days of going on the lot or get sold before they even arrive. I had to do a lot of looking to find a dealer that had an order allotment available to sell me. Does anyone know how many 2-series were imported into the US in 2014? |

I have seen one in EB2 in LA, another one at a costco gas station in Carlsbad (this was all the way back in December) and 1 in Mineral Grey today near Encinitas.
The guy at Costco had a really smug smile on his face and knew what he was driving. |

I still have not seen another 235 vert on the roads in OC besides mine...with all the BMWs running around here, I would have thought for sure to have seen another.
